Beautiful afternoon for a run sunny and warm. Ran 12k on the snowy trails in the woods near home. Lots of birdwatchers out giving me dirty looks as I noisily ran by.

I could feel it today that I havn't run alot in the last two weeks.

If I do run run tomorrow it will most probably be in the afternoon in the woods near home lots of trails yet to discover. Maybe we can organise a group run there.

yep... a very springlike day.... warm and slushy in the woods on the mountain..... my schedule called for 7miles.... greedy me did 13... 1:38:13.... and would've just kept right on going but I ran out of time and daylight...

A group run chez Roly in the woods.... sounds like a plan, although my weekends are all spoken for until the end of february..... maybe an evening with headlamps.... chops would come

G: Your not alone, but I'm not a morning person !

I've just registered for the Nike 21kmtl in april, I guess I should see people from the group there. All depending if I can get free from work I could also be going to Ile Bizard and lasalle 10k. Hope to see some of you at one of these races.

Keep on running!

G: You`re not alone - was out early this morning, my usual 5 and change loop. Saw other runners, one chap I crossed paths with, gave me a big grin and a wave. Can`t blame him, not typical January running conditions. It was nice, not much traffic.

Now on to the serious endurance event of the day, shopping with my daughter - can this count as cross training ?

Have a great day everyone.

I'll be working out at the NDG Y in a few minutes if anyone goes there. Just weights today with some light running (maybe) on the TM since I ran long yesterday, or at least tried too. I took the bus #211 out to Baie D'urfe yesterday afternoon and ran along Lakeshore through Beaconsfield, Pointe Claire, Dorval, Lachine, Lasalle and Verdun, finally having to call it quits at the Verdun Auditorium because my hamstring was killing me. I wanted to live to run another day, so I had a Tim Hortons coffee, a couple of Donuts, whipped out a bus ticket (which I always carry with me in case I want to wimp out) and took the de L'Eglise Metro back to Villa Maria.

Lakeshore road is a nice run though, I would recommend to everyone, especially in the spring when you can use the bike path on the waterfront rather than the road. I must say though, the drivers were all rather curtious & patient with my unexpected zigzag running pattern around the many pools of water at roadside. The path was under water at too many spots, so I got back to the road.

The run took 2hrs.10min. I estimate it would have taken me 20 more minutes to make it up to NDG from there but..........I basically ran with my monitor, keeping my HR between 150 & 155. It was tempting to go faster, as I usually marathon at 160-165, but I managed to harness the racer and make it enjoyable. The annoying neuroma in the foot was there, but, like in New York, I altered my gait somewhat - becoming a mid-foot striker, instead of ball of the foot striker - in order to finish. I go the McGill physio tomorrow to start work on the hamstring. It's about time, since it is the 1 year aniversary of injuring it in the first place. Have a great day everyone. I think we are about to get a dumping. Run earlier rather than later, unless you like the snow like me. See some of you in Ile Bizard.

Mercury : You run in NDG too? I have mixed feelings on the absence of snow on the ground... The roads are horrible (let's be honest) and full of holes. I like to run in Hampstead-Cote-St-Luc instead. And I love the snow, it's soft and absorbs the impact.

Looks like a lot of you are doing the Nike half. Hope they remember the maple syrup this year. I'm still waiting for the race director to confirm this before I sign up

PS:
Happy Chinese New Year! It's the year of the woof woof.

.... got off to a slightly delayed start, out the door at 7:30.... got to the monument about 50 mins later.... back up to the top, 4 loops and then home. Not nearly as nice toaday as yesterday.... sharp wind, humid and cooler..... smelt like snow..... it was also pretty slippery in places. Just under 3 hour... probably about 19 miles.... bringing the weeks total over 50.
All is well.... no aches or pains, well nothing a hot bath and an advil wouldn't fix

take care

Went for a nice walk with my Daughters this morning in the woods near home and took a few photos to show what a great area to run and walk.

Any time you want to try a run there I'm able and willing. I didn't get my headlamp for X-mass so a night run I will have to buy a lamp or use a flashlight.

Planning on another run there at 2:30 today.

Ran on the treadmill yesterday for an 1.5 hours.I was pleased to discover despite a tender foot and a yoga workout earlier my base speed has bumped up a notch. Argh... Not much going on these days.

The recovery has been reaggravated by last Thursday's down hill work out in the dark. Woke up early Friday morning to searing pain. Hope I'll be ready for this Tuesday.

Happy Chinese New Year. Health, wealth and time to enjoy them both to all in the year of the dog. As for myself, as they say in yoga speak, "More downward-less dog"

Have a great day and looking forward to seeing one and all at the Nike 1/2

Hi DR,

You picked my favorite photos too.

The shoulder is doing better the muscle pain and swelling have gone down. The range of motion is still limited and putting on or taking off a shirt over my head is a little painfull.

Not much running for me these days, feels strange but kinda refreshing to add in the swimming and cycling. Gives a nice change of pace.

Hey folks, I *almost* ran outside last night at 11pm ... *almost* ... and then my head knocked some sense into me ... I'm starting to run with no warrior straps! (braces)

Just wondering if anyone would be game for a little hill run this Thursday at 6pm, Villa Maria Metro ... Chops, can you lead? HILL RUN, HILL RUN, HILL RUN !! C'mon you folks ... c'mon out!!

Roly: Take it easy on your shoulder - it doesn't sound so good ... you still on ibuprofen? Will you need physio?

Hello Everyone,

I have been keeping tabs on the forum, just haven't had time to post. A few details to add.

- Happy be-lated birthday to Turtleboy
- Great looking pic from the mountineers Grommit
- Sorry to hear about the shoulder Roly
- Great looking pics from your family hike Roly
- Love the blog Sally
- I will try to make Ile Bizzard, but no Guarantees... Who else is going? I know Mercury, Who else?
- Is anyone going to do the 5K underground city run? It is looking more and more intruiging. I might have to do it.
- I will most Definatly do Lasalle, as it is about a 3 min drive from my house. Who else is doing that?
- Hey DF7, are you doing the nike half? I am thinking about it, but not sure... that is my only day off that week!
- Oh, and last weekend we bought a Treadmill!!! I hate to say it, but I kind of like it. I am not into doing a full marathon on it yet, but I do enjoy the fact that it takes away the getting dressed for the elements excuse.
- On Friday, I ran the 'houde solo! Even after running up University from Notre-Dame to Molson stadium! Awesome run.

That's it about it for now. I won't be able to make the Thursday hill run, as that's opening night for the show we are woking on now. But I hope to all some of you soon. Especially those I haven't seen in a very long time.

Cheers,
-M

Mr & Mme Lambchops should stumble along the 5km and Mr Lambchops might give the 10km a vague try.

It was going to be yoga tonight but took a chance on the weather instead – just got in. Nice, mild, no wind. A bit tricky, messy in places but felt good to be outdoors.

Ile B – no, Lasalle, maybe, Nike ˝ don’t see how its possible, having not trained this winter, my three times a week around my neighbourhood don’t really count.

Thanks for checking JB….nice to hear from you.

Ralf, Mars, how are you guys ?

JB: Good to hear from you. I'm glad that you guys purchased a treadmill. How as the Rosie Ruiz documentary? I'm looking forward to seeing it. As for myself. Ile Bizard is out as I'm not 100% yet. I was looking at the pic that Omni e-mailed to us from LaSalle last year and I was waxing nostalgic. I'm leaning more to doing so. It would be nice to have another, "class" photo of us all. Thanks for the belated b-day greeting.

SS: No hills for me at this point. I'll hibernate indoors during my convalescence.

I'm just going back to basics. Light running. yoga, weights and drills.

Good morning everyone,

Nice pics Rol.. And this woody area is nice, you're lucky to have this close by your place.

Df -shopping with daughter, is'nt it an olympic discipline?

I'm taking a break from Capoeira because I want to dedicate myself to the handstand and other acrobatics. I want to stand and walk on my hands and that's an obsession. I joined a gymnastic club (for adults), I go twice a week. I hope to be able to do it by April.

My running schedule is now 3-4 times a week, about 25-35 km. (I run to my gym class).

Chops, you're funny!!!

Got to get some work done.

Hi All,

After a nightout with 30 of my close work associates at Sharx pool (I drank and ate with both arms for cross training)
Im ready to start my 17 week marathon training program for Ottawa (Training marathon for Jay).

I would like to join in on the hill run on Thursday at 6:00 Villa Maria. I'll see how the week works out. Clients are in on Wed. and Thurs. According to my Hal Higdon marathon training Intermediate II program I'm only scheduled to run 3 miles on Thursday

SS shoulders fine enough to run just some little aches and pains not worthy of physio. Although some question whether psychological counseling may help me?

JB congrats on the TM despite what some may say it a a great training tool.

KJ this woody area is only about 15 minutes by car from where you and SS live.

edited to add... 3.1 miles tonight on the TM (after 2 trail runs on the week-end) at a speed of 7.5 (8.00 min/mile) total of 25.11 minutes

hey knees... wish i could walk on my hands.... sort of very cool .... demo in the spring pleeze
Roly.... take care
tonight at the gym went like this: 15 mins Bike, 20 mins stretch, 6 miles run, 45 mins weights/core & another 20 mins stretch
..... so my program called for the 6 miles at a recovery pace with some strides thrown in..... however my warped mind and his old buddies "the legs" were having none of it... w/up mile 7:40...and then we sort of just kept getting faster ... last mile 6:20... total time 41:06

To date, the experiment continues quite nicely.... but I'm gonna need an "event" soon and Easter seems like such a long way away..... I am now toying with the idea of pacing the last 30 of somebody else's race (100) in may..... I like the idea of testing the night running thing at a more serious level.... Shusshhhh don't tell the mrs Hmmmm, is he loosing his marbles again? Is anybody else finding winter loooooong?

Chin up

Yes, I still have the documentary at home. It was quite good, though it has one of those "unsolved mysteries" feel to the filming and commentary. It was good to finally see the whole story start to finish. It blows me away that she still maintains innocence. "I ran every one (sob) of those 26 miles (sob)", and she still has the medal, refuses to give it back. oops, did I ruin the ending... ;-)

It's a date, Chops ... what route do you have planned for us, how long? I want to invite some other runners so I'd like to be able to tell them what to expect.

KJ - Great to hear about your newest project, but whatever you do, don't try the trampoline ... or circus acts ... cause we don't want you to run away and join them, I still need you as a running buddy. Will try next week to meet you for an early morning run - let me know which dates you plan on running.

Roly - looking forward to running with you Thurs.

Alright, who's planning on running Sunday morning? I'll be at the monument at 9am. Who's in? JB, will you have gotten through enough craziness at work to be able to make it? BTW, congrats on Da Houde. You're a machine. Let me know next time when you might want to accomplish that and I might join you ...
