KJ: Cool! You're alive! I'll check into what kind of training I need to do this week and get back to you ... I need to start incorporating more running into my program. Hey, you up for running on Sunday Mont-Royal at 9am? Actually, anyone but lonely Grommit and me up for it? Please someone ... say you will be there or I will be forced to run more Grommit's pace than mine ... h-e-l-p!!! JB? Chops? Anyone else? Folks, I trained for over 3 1/2 hours today including: running: 37 min. spinning: 30 min. elliptical: 15 min. swimming: 2 hours 10 min. I can't even imagine how many laps I swam. Chops, what do you think of that? For full details, you know where to go ... (people, make some comments on my blog, I want to hear you!) And don't forget to click on the advertising blurb as often as possible cause it will make me a little $$ and maybe I can buy some E-load in a few months. Thanks, and good night, Sore Sally ------------------ "Follow your bliss" [This message has been edited by Silly Sally (edited Jan-21-2006).]

Hi everyone. Great to see some snow again. Unfortunately I did my two hour run early this morning before the snow. Olmstead road was basiclly unclimbable as it was a skating rink. Fortunately, I had some portable crampons in my pockets. If you didn't have those, I don't think you could have made it around the cross. (maybe that's why I didn't see anyone up there!) Coming down was an adventure. I only fell once, going down the stairs the fast way-on my butt. Need to put on some padding there I guess. The trails through the woods were great & beautiful though. At least I finally got some mileage in for a change. Be careful out there. You can't be sure what is under that 3cm. of snow.------------------

There is a thing called a telephone, Mister ... Good thing Nicholas from my tri club showed up to keep me company. Though it was crisp, as Df said, it was gorgeously sunny and no wind ... snow and ice on the trees looked beautiful. There were some slippery patches here and there but overall the footing was quite manageable though a little hard (that's ice ya know!) I didn't miss you at all Grommit ... Great run with fun conversation all the way ... Nicholas didn't flinch one bit when I led him into a second loop at the top. I'm looking forward to having him run with the rest of the Mtl Coolrunning gang - it's always great to bring a new runner on board ... but where have our veteran Coolrunners gone that I have not seen forever? Has the snow buried you all in? RG? Truxx, Omni? Hey Roly, I saw Stephane and your Asian friend on the loop at the top, but I don't think they saw me and by the time I realised who they were, we had already passed each other. Have a great day, folks, Sally ------------------ "Follow your bliss"

Really sorry I didn't make it this morning..... I guess my lithium batteries just ran outta gas..... It's all Roly's fault really.... I mean what kind of fool runs a TM 26,2 and then thinks it OK to scale a mountain the next weekend?.... Hmm, me I guess. My last 6 weeks of training have been in the 40-50 mile range and this week I only took one days rest after Sunday's LSDTMM... I then squeezed in 3 workouts this week and probably not enough sleep.... So yesterday started at about 4:30 am making hot chocolate, sandwiches and rounding up the gear to do the Chops hike. We met as scheduled and hit the road down to the adirondacks.... the weather was OK at this point and when we arrived at the trailhead the sky even had patches of blue.... not for long though. Not much wind (at the base anyway) and about 5 or 6 above zero... we started out without the crampons... I skided onto my best feature right at the start and we then decided that we would get nowhere without a little more traction...crampons on!! So up and up and up we went.... I couldn't help but wonder what sort of pace I could've run it were it a warm summers day it started to rain, the temp dropped and the wind picked up... the trail for the first hour or so wasn't that technical but pretty steep. Very icey, trudging through little steams of melted snow.... silence and beautiful scenery.... just superb. About a mile and a half from the top Chops and I stoped and ate a salmai sandwich (while we waited for Roly who was a way back having a picnic of sausage, yoghurt etc etc espresso etc) at this point Chops declared it now gets a tad more technical (yeah right) when Roly joined us we pushed on. I was leading and scaled over a bunch of ice covered rocks... I must've been about 200 yards ahead when I heard Chops whistling and shouting to signal there was a problem.... Roly had slid off the edge of the rock... Chops managed to grab him as he went... very exciting stuff ... but alas I missed it all. I went back down... and they had decided to abandon their climb as Roly had banged up his shoulder pretty nicely... I hadn't come this far only to return without making it to the top.... So I let them go and continued up. Above the tree-line th trail became very exposed, really windy and totally icey. It took me about another 3/4 hr to make it to the top.... Wahoo.... all alone, not a soul in sight just me and the gale force wind... I forgot to mention on the way the rain turned to small ice pellets and then to snow at the top. I managed to take a few photos.... but very quickly decided to get back down to the others asap.... Coming down was a very different experience.... I thought it might be runable which it probably was ... just I kept tripping over my crampons and did a face plant a couple of times... very uncool .. Got to the bottom in about 50 minutes. The whole hike took about 4 hrs. I found Chops and Roly in the chalet, Roly nursing the wounded shoulder. We wandered around Lake Placid on the way home and stopped in the Ironman USA official supplier and bought a little something for SS... I'm dying to see her face light up with glee.... I should've been able to make the presentation this morning, but the old body just konked out... I may just take a day off. Sorry Sal.....I'll call.... promisePhotographic evidence can be spotted at: http://ca.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/grommitruns2xs/my_photos Take care

Grommit, Chops, Roly, now it's my turn to be jealous. How much would I have liked to go there with you. . From the pictures I learned what Grommit didn't mention in his post. You really went up to Mt. Algonquin starting from the Adirondack Loj. I know this beautiful region, although I never went up in this direction. Well done. Hope to join you one day. Ralf

Very enjoyable day. Thank you Chops and Grommit. Chops was very heroic standing at the edge of the ice trying to make me understand that I was not using my crampons(Crapons) correctly. As I started to slide he grabbed the back of my jacket and tried to pull me back. Unfortunatly he lost his grip hurting a finger in the process and me sliding/tumbling down the ice covered rock and a little way down the trail I stopped just before the trail turned to the right. Whew had I slid further I would of ended up down a hill into the trees. Yep I hurt something and as I tried to move I realized I had bangged up my left shoulder pretty good. When I tried to move my arm around to see if I could move it the shoulder spasmed and I couldn't move it for a few seconds, then I felt a pop and was able to lower it to my side where I kept it. Thanks to Mr. Chops who in addidion to carrying all his stuff he also carried all my stuff back down the mountain. Thanks Chops for seeing me safely down. So the official status I may of had a partial dislocation that stretched some muscle and ligamens. For the next two weeks I should use a sling to take some weight of the shoulder. Hopefully it won't take to long to heel. I may have to sit out the 1/2 marathon on Feb. 5, 2006. Roly

Cool story guys! Roly, Roly... wow, hope you get better soon. I'm sure in a few weeks or when you're running your next marathon you'll laugh at this story. Did the doctor say how long it will take to recover and when you can start running? I guess you will get the little rest your legs need now!Df and TB... are you guys missing something? I dunno, like something with bacon, sausages and eggs?

Spent a non running day with DF today. It was nice to take day off from running without any guilt. A bit of munching and a shopping was a nice change of pace. Definitely looking forward to the yoga session.Roly: Woah, awesome story. When are you going to sell the movie rights to it? I'm glad that you're on the road to recovery. Chops: Good stuff. You'll be the next action movie star. Grommit: Thanx for the pics. The knee has recovered as I was able to go for my long run on Saturday. The bottom of my left foot is still tender but I am able to train on it. Still looking forward to the Nike half.

Medical check-up following our Saturday outing:1- Both heels are litterally peeled: my boots' leather is not anymore able to sustain the back spring pressure of my crampons. Ouch. 2- Middle finger is blue: some sort of political statement ?? 3- Ears are buzzing: dj Grommit was spinning the mp3 like he was having a pear-shapped $hit. 4- When are we going back ? PS: Today, go vote.

.... crossing the border into Hamburger-a-Go-Go-land on saturday was sort of funny... the question was asked by the borderperson "what nationality are you all?" .... with a desire to keep things simple I replied we're all Canajuns eh?...... and then handed over our documents/driving licenses... "where were you born?" she asked.... looking at me "London", "and you sir?" directed at Chops... "Paris".... she then pointed out that Roly was actually brought into this world south of the border ... according to his passport [has it dried out yet?]...... "Yep Canajuns" she chuckled..... "have a nice day!"Yes go vote! grommit Chops is really a big closet Johnnie Haliday Fan.... not to mention Rap

Wahoo... just signed up for Boston.... 12 weeks to go.... I'll probably be going down alone as this one sort of collides with my SO's plans for easter.... I'll take a greyhound bus, maybe, I guess as I don't think I'll be up to a six hour drive afterwards... I'll leave this sort of foolishness to the IM folks grommit, excitedly....... did you figure out your logistics yet Merc?

No, no, never driven for more than two hours right after a marathon, and I really suffered. Got 5 hours sleep that night though and then drove the 6 hours back to Montreal. Grommit, congrats on making Boston official. Hope you sort out your transport problem. Just make sure you shower before getting on that bus ... Roly: What did the doc say about your shoulder? When can you start running again? Chops: Sorry to hear about your heels ... OUCH!! Time to go shopping? Grommit, Roly and Chops: Wow ... thank you for the wonderful gift ... how touching. I'm going to try it out tonight as I get my 5 minutes relaxation time in. I absolutely adore blankets!! Got them lying all around my living room ... never have enough. For those who want to see, check on my blog tomorrow since I will scan it in. Cheers, Bonnie ------------------ "Follow your bliss" [This message has been edited by Silly Sally (edited Jan-23-2006).]

Congrats on your Boston acceptance Gro. Got mine last week. Was just scanning the calander and realized that the race falls on Easter. The actual race falls on Monday (their state holiday), and I will most probably drive down & back if my vintage Dodge is still alive by then! Did it last year and drove back on Tuesday. It will mean taking the day off, which will pose a bit of a problem since teachers are forbidden to "extend" holidays, probably because we might be tempted to not return. Guess I will have to start working on getting a doctors note for the day as I feel a cold coming on......... You are absolutely invited to join me and a friend. I believe we left on Friday last year so as to arrive early enough to attend the Expo before everything was sold out. I usually stay with a group of runners from a club down there who have been known to put people up. Met them in Philly two years ago. If you contact the New York Roadrunners, you might get lucky. Anyways, if you or anyone else want to reach me, send me an Email to: <icordner@yahoo.ca> I'll give you my phone number and we can work out plans from there. Cheers.
