I got out there and ran in the snow before it gets too deep! It was the same regional park run as last week, and just about the exact same speed... I was happy with the result because I felt kind of sluggish at the mid-way point. I feel good now.Truxx

Greetings from YVR. I followed Grommit's advice and got my a** to Canada, although not to YUL.Last week it was three weeks since my visit to the doctor who told me not to run for three to four weeks. So, on Friday I ran for the first time. In order to start easily, I did a whole 1.5 km loop blazingly fast in 12.5 minutes. Result: On Saturday my shin hurt again. arrrrrrrRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!! So I am spending my first visit to BC moving very little, icing my leg as often as possible and listening to the "Ring" (no, not Tolkiens, although there are many similarities; 14.5 hours of music. Hope the neighbors can take this.) I will keep you posted. Take care Ralf

Um, I hope you'll be taking the bus ... driving that distance after your first marathon is highly not recommended ... Did you know there is a triple Ironman? Here's one account ... http://www.bobbysrun.co.uk/Ironmn1.html Dirk told me that I'm not allowed to do a full marathon - too much recuperation afterwards ... so I might have to be a good Ironwoman and listen to him ... Ralf: OUCH!! Chops: for L&K, see blog ... Good chance I will hold another one soon, but in a different setting ... and I expect to see both you and your wife at that one ... changed the concept and everyone got BOTH locks and keys ... Sally I may just have to ditch the Ottawa marathon this year and run the 10K with my co-workers. Stephan is going but he is going to be with his Family and they like to sight see. Look closer at the link you posted there is a deca ironman Distances: 24 mile swim, 1120 mile bike, 262 mile run (non-stop!) If I don't run Ottawa I might just try the Fat Ass 50k. Looks like fun. CHOOOOOOPPPPPPSSSSS!! http://www.ironwoman2006.blogspot.com - everything you want to know about my party and also a special swimming update just for you Roly - you're wimping out on Ottawa ... you have to at least run the Half with me, you have to get sub-2 buddy boy ... Look, I'll pace ya ... I wouldn't do the Fat Ass, no way, no medal ... DecaIronman ... yeah, I'm not that stupid ... well, at least not this year ... Truxx & Mercury: so happy that you both attended my little gathering ... it was a lot of fun and I am amazed at how much cake athletes can consume! I will host another one of these events, you'll see! Merc, thanks again for the second cake (yes, folks, we polished off two cakes and whipped cream to boot!) To those who didn't come, too bad you missed out ... Sally

No I am not wimping out just yet I'm still keeping my options open. I can run the half if I can't get any one to drive me back to Montreal. I have started my training for Ottawa that includes easy runs Fartlek, speed and hill intervals on Teus-Thurs. rest on Monday and Fridays. I,m keeping the week-ends for running trails and LSD (with Hills) for jay preparation. Roly Roly

Though the marathon is close to Jay, I still think it would be wise to do a full marathon to get the mental preparation. A road marathon is completely different than a TM marathon, and even the RM is entirely different than Jay, but at least you will have to battle with demons. There are buses, you know ... and other marathons before Jay ... Just a thought ... I know it took me up to the last few marathons to stop swearing during them and questioning if I'd ever run one again ... But heck, ignorance is bliss ... I'm driving my sweetie nuts with this Olympic thing !!! Let me tell you a couple of events I just can't swallow:1- Arena speed-skating: Am I the only one around finding this thing ridiculous ? Can you imagine the summer Olympics with arena track events ? How can you be a gifted speed-skater and choose roller-derby on ice ? Just compare athletes' body type between short and long and you know where the real McCoys are. 2- Half-pipe snowboard: If this toy is in the winter Olympics, why much older ones like skateboard or surf are not during the summer ? Comments ?

Actually I ran outside this afternoon. It was quite fun but there wasn't a lot of traction. It was more a leg training than a cardio training.
