I'm not a Wisconsinite (FIB), but I have done the Madison Marathon twice (I love it), the Lake Geneva Half (2005) and am preparing for the Whistlestop on 10/15 in Ashland. I know there are several CoolRunners who are in Wisconsin, so I'm sure they'll respond if they see this. You have a great state for running and Madison is very cool (obvious statement). ------------------ The road goes on forever and the party never ends. Robert Earl Keen

Glad to see some people responding to this. I am a on again off again runner. I seem to always do too much too fast and get some little injury that makes me stop running for a few weeks. I am just starting my "on again" phase. So whats your stories out there? I see the Michigan thread has lots of people responding. We can't let them out do us!! Later, mrclean928

Hey WI runners! I'm a Wisconsin runner about once or twice a year. I grew up in central wisconsin and currently live in Pensacola, FL. I return to the 'great north' occasionally to visit my family. My dad is still in Wisconsin Rapids and my mom is in the Green Bay area. GO PACKERS!!! (yep, still love them even though it's gonna be a tough year for us) Tanya

I'm from Ashland, though home is now Boise, Idaho. No what I miss the most right now? Those cross country ski trails that were perfect for autumn running. Ahhhh. . . . to be home again. . .

I live in the western Upper Peninsula of Michigan, but my runs sometimes take me into Wisconsin. Does that count? I'm looking forward to the Whistlestop Half. I've run it two other times - in fact, my first race ever was the half in 2003 - and enjoy it immensely. Perhaps I'll try the full in 2006.....

For those of you who've done the Whistlestop in the past, I'm staying in Ironwood, Mi.--Ashland was mostly booked. How long a drive is it from there to Ashland--for the start? I know you have to get on a shuttle bus to go to the start and that leaves at 7:30. Thanks! ------------------ The road goes on forever and the party never ends. Robert Earl Keen

Ironwood is about 35 miles or so from Ashland. Give the drive 45 minutes, just to be safe. Shouldn't need any more than that.

Thanks, lebooth. It looked to be a pretty quick trip, especially early in the morning. I believe I'll give it an hour just to be safe! I can't wait. What a beautiful spot for a marathon/half marathon. ------------------ The road goes on forever and the party never ends. Robert Earl Keen

You're welcome! Yeah, by the time you find a place to park and all that, an hour will give you plenty of time without rushing. Have a great race!

I'm brand new to this site. Obviously, from my moniker, the answer is "you betcha." I am also from Madison. I have recently decided to "collect" all 50 states, so I would be interested in hearing from anyone from the area who would want to ride-share to various midwest races. And as a side-note, Whistlestop was my first foray into distance running 4 years ago, and it is the only race I do every year. A very welcoming and well run race!

Hey Everyone!!So here's the scoop!! I live in a dinky little town North of Eau Claire. I just ran my first Half marathon on Sept 10th (the Hayward Half Marathon). Right now I think I am planning on running a 10 mile race in Eau Claire and then after that start training for a full Marathon. I am looking a Grandma's as a good first Marathon. Keep on running!!!

Ok fellow Wisconsin runners, this fourm is getting towards the bottom so it's time to write something. So what are your running goals? I want to lose weight around the mid-section. I just started a circuit training program. I'm thinking about doing the weights M,W,F and run T, TH,S. Signing off, mrclean928 ------------------ My Profile

Long term goal: Do a marathon in every state. 5 down, 45 to go... Dream goal: Do a sub 4hour marathon Immediate goal: Do 3 marathons in 4 months without injuring myself. Intermediate goal: Increase sprinting speed (I've joined a new women's tackle football team, and I've got to get my fast twitch muscles used to working again.)

Madison here!!! Raised near WI, went to college is Eau Claire and have been in Madison the past two years! madison is a great running town!! I have done 5 marathons and looking forward to the next in spring. Ultimately I would love to do the Ironman WI in 2007 if it is still hosted in Madison!! Jennifer in EC you should look into the Norske Nook 15K in May. It is a majorly hilly and challenging course but also a lot of fun and very rewarding. Keep running.

Checking in and reprensenting the SE Corner of Wisconsin. (Racine) either no one admits beign from Milwaukee/Racine/Kenosha area or whatever. Long-term goal: 50 marathons by age 50. (37 'thons @ 43 y/o) & Run 2 marathons same weekend Short-term goal - To increase speed and workouts next year, lower 5K to under 18, sub 60 10 mile and sub 3:00 marathon. Also, I'm most likely going to get one chance (by my schedule) to run a sub 1:30 1/2 in 1/2 ironman tri. I probably won't run Mad-City marathon, and my work schedule really limits me to race travel w/o alot of pre-planning. So i have to pick and choose the priority races. I have run Mad-City, Fox Cities, Green Bay, Milwaukee Lakefront (very first 'thon in 81). Shorter favorites are Wo-Zaa-Wha 1/2 in the Dells, and the now defunct Rock County 20K in janesville and Kewaskum's Kettle 20K. The Lighthouse Run 10M and Kenosha Turkey Trot are favorites of mine as well as the Badgerland Striders Turkey Trot Prediciton 15K Born & raised here in Racine (live in same neighborhood as i grew up in. no i don't live my parents).
