WI MTP,Boston is our common denominator. I qualified at Green Bay. There's usually an FE organized @ RW Forums. Check over there about 3-4 weeks before the race. There are usually at least 2 FE's (dinner), one on Saturday night and the other on Sunday. Maybe we'll meet at one of those. Stay healthy, Roy

WI was about to fall to the dreaded page # 2 - BumpTraining for Fox Cities continues to well here, Although the heat index this weekend could change that for a short time. Enjoy your summer running -

well, these hot weekends are making the long runs tough! It was 80 already when I headed out at 5 am to run on Sunday. ugh. Weather people calling for a cooler weekend July 22-23. Hope they are right. I only got in 4.5 on Sunday, so I am reversing the weeks in my training sked- it says on 22-23 weekend I should run 5K, and do 6 miles this past weekend. I am going to actually shoot for more than 6, more like 8-10 (my long run is up to 8 already) hope everyone else is staying cool. My garage thermometer read 106.2 at 5:30 pm on Saturday. Now that's hot!

Hey WI!!I think the heat is killing my running (or it's my sore foot )!! I am going on vacation next week in Alaska and the high temps up there are expected to be about 60 so it could almost feel chilly. Hoping to bring my running stuff and get some new scenery runs in. Then when I get back it is time to get serious about training for Wistlestop HM in Oct. Hope everyone is surviving the heat and humidity!! ------------------ Jennifer It's all about me A-weigh Labor Day Day Challenge SW-212 CW-212 GW-199

Hey, is anyone else going to be at Fox Cities? I'm training for my first half-marathon and plan to run it that day. Soooo glad the heat has finally broken; I felt like I was going to melt into a puddle and there would be nothing left of me but my running shoes!

So you had to go and say it. Can we blame you for the temps now?

GaelicTempest - I am running the Fox Cities marathon - The 1/2 and full run together for a lot of the 1/2. I also live in this area - So I have been on most parts of the course just out running - If you have questions - I would be happy to help.It has been warmer than usual this summer - But any day that I get to run is a good day for running. I am leaving to do my lunch run right now and it is 90+

I missed my traditional Otto Grunski. I was asked to fill in on a relay at Paavo Nurmi up in Hurley. The only people I saw for 13.1 miles were the people at water stations and while I waited at the exchange. I had to keep telling myself that I was actually running a race. Definitely a strange experience all around and definitely a different atmosphere up in the northwoods.

You were the lucky one to run the hilly 2nd half You were missed @ the Grunski - I should have tapered more than just Friday - I slowed down the 2nd half when I expected to speed up - something probably like 17:40 1st / 18:06 2nd. Are you doing the Fox Cities ? I will be at the next build up run if I can manage it.

Hello Wisconsinites! I'm increasing mileage in prep for the Fox Cities on 9/24; I'm doing the half, not the full though, and hoping to better my HM time (this is my second, so it shoudn't be hard!) I also plan to do the HM at Mason City IA Oct 22. Weather is really cooperating- the runs have been wonderful on these nice cool mornings.

Hello Wisconsin!! Anybody here doing Whistlestop in October? I just did a 6:00 am run and it was an absolutely beautiful morning! I really need to get myself out of bed earlier b/c these cool morning runs are so much better than afternoon ones!! Good luck to those of you gearing up for Fox Cities. That looks like a great run - I contemplated doing that one but I didn't have quite enough time to recover from GB and train for it...

WI MTP - the course description for the Fox Cities half mary says something like, 'flat, with one hill overpass around mile 11.' Exactly what how big of a hill are we talkin' about? It's really hilly around where I live (Dells area), so I'm pretty well-prepared there - but if there's going to be some huge sucker looming ahead of me at mile 11, I'd like to start incorporating a large hill near the end of my long runs. I've been off-and-on sick for 2 weeks, but still managed to get all my runs in. However, I was shooting for at least 10 miles on Sunday and wound up with only 8.1. Frustrating, but I suppose my body needed a little step back anyway. Last night it hit me that I only have 4 long runs left before Fox Cities. Relieving, yet kind of terrifying! ------------------ http://tatertrek.blogspot.com http://www.active.com/donate/tatertrek

GaelicTempest - No worries - I have run over it a dozen times in the last year. It is just a normal overpass over a major road. From base to top it is around 25 feet high and not that steep. You get to the top and it feels like it is downhill to the corner of Telulah and Midway. At that corner it is 2 flat miles to the finish Enjoy the training -

No Whistle Stop here - If I am going to drive that close to Lake Superior in October - There will be Steelhead fishing involved The runners I know who do Whistle Stop usually run someof their best times up there - Have fun

GaelicTempest and WIMTP, I have run the Fox Cities full marathon twice, and I know the overpass you are talking about. It seems pretty formidable at mile 24 of the marathon, both times it was hard on me. The first time (my first marathon), I ended up walking part of the way up.It probably is not nearly as significant after only 11 miles. At any rate, it is relatively short, but seemed farily steep to me.

Any incline after 23 miles is significant. On a scale of 1-10 it is probably a 2 (Make the legs burn slightly but manageable)for a hill. Twin Cities at mile 20.5-23 the hills I give a 5 (Cruel but manageable)If you run in the WI Dells area this one will not be bad - just be ready for it psycologically - And remember it is all clear sailing after this hill.

MTP-- I'm probable for Fox Cities. My mileage is low and I would only go at 90% (staying in my zone 1) so I can recover quickly for something in Dec/Jan. Still debating about doing half instead as I believe I can set a PR. I was 10 seconds off PR pace at Paavo and I've been working more on threshold than endurance, averaging only about 50 mpw this summer.

Sue - Good to hear from you.Maybe its time to do Houston January 14th - Texas misses you I plan on going to the build up run this Sunday - As always - I am 10 pounds away from running a fast time @ Fox Cities (38 days) not likely. See you there - hopefully. I hope the temps are like this AM for Fox Cities

Well I think that I am in for Whistle Stop. I have been debating but I think I have made up my mind and will now write out the check and beat the discount deadline. With the weather cooling off I am hoping for a race that is finally going to be bearable. We'll see...it seems like the heat can find any race I run.------------------ Jennifer It's all about me A-weigh Labor Day Day Challenge SW-212 CW-212.5 GW-199
