az404 - welcome. Are you from Point? - I grew up near Wausau - now live in Neenah.

This is my second Point Bock and the weather again was perfect for early March - Sunny - warmish and low winds.

Showed up 10 minutes before the start and had not signed up yet - amazingly they still managed to get me processed and I got to the start line @ 11:57. No warmup - so 1st few miles were a warmup and although I picked it up a little - I kept it as a Tempo run with beer at the end.

I couldn't find any til April, but check here there may be some if your willing to travel http://www.active.com/ just choose your region or the silent sports magazine site usually has a calender that goes out a couple of months.

Hey Istall (Larry)!

I'm from Chicago, but I've run Grandma's 12 times. It's definitely one of the best races in the country. I'm also signed up to run Green Bay, and I also plan to BQ. You're only about 3 months older than me, so it looks like we need to break 3:46. With a 3:48 under your belt, you definitely have a shot.

We've been a LOT luckier, weather-wise, here in Chicago, so my training has been going very well. Our biggest snow was 6 inches in early December. The most we've had other than that is 2-3 inches a couple times. I think it's only been 20 inches total all winter so far.

Does anyone here organize pre-race get togethers? On RW Forums they're called FE's (Forumite Encounters).

Good luck with your training.

-Roy

Hope everyone has shoveled out of the snow!!! Or was everyone lucky enough to be south of the snow line?? We got 10 inches here and what a mess.

Are any of you Wisconsinites familiar with good running routes around the Wisconsin Dells area? My family will be staying at the Grand Marquis Resort in April, and I don't want my training for the Cellcom Green Bay Marathon to slide. I still plan on a few good soaks in the hot tub, but I need to get in a 12 and 15 miler while up there. I like good scenery, wide shoulders, not too much traffic, but not multiple loops. Running loops makes it feel like a track, and it makes the runs seem interminably long.

Thanks, Roy

Roy, haven't been on the forums for a few days, so didn't see you Cellcom Green Bay post. I don't know about any FEs, my travel plans are not solid yet.

As far as the Dells are concerned, I don't know of any specific routes, but there are plenty of country roads, mostly paved in the area. A lot of hills in the Dells area though. If you don't mind driving a little ways out of the Dells (about 15 miles west), over in Reedsburg there is a nice rail-trail, the 400 trail, mostly flat with some gradual grades, crushed limestone. It runs up to Elroy, 22 mi., and into the Elroy-Sparta bike trail. The 400 up to Elroy and back is usually not too crowded with bikes, especially as early in the season as April.

Here's a link to a map:
http://www.trailmonkey.com/US/US_MtnBikeMaps/wi_400sttrl.JPG

I've biked and run on this trail, and it is very nice.

Thanks Larry,

It's still early enough before Green Bay to get an FE going. I ran Boston last year, and the FE dinners didn't get organized until a week or two beforehand. We ended up with about 35 people attending. Green Bay being much smaller means less organization will be necessary. The River Room at the Holiday Inn City Center might be a good place to gather. It's close to the expo and host hotel, plus that's where I'm staying.

I don't mind getting a little hill training in while in the Dells. Last year we spent a few days in southern MO and it was very hilly there. I enjoyed doing some hill work and I think it made me better at Boston.

I am so excited I think that spring may actually be heading our way!!! Well my run last night was the worst one that I have ever had. I had some severe calf cramps. But this morning I redeemed myself and had a really good run. I guess we all have those.

I haven't posted here in awhile, probably because I am a former Badger (Benton, WI). Well, still one at heart of course. The whole family still resides there. I live near South Bend, IN (Granger) now.

I am considering running the MadCity Marathon for the first time this year as a training run leading up to a much longer race. I also believe my twin brother is running the event, but shooting for another sub3. So, I might start out with him for a couple of miles and that's it. Sure would be cool to run sub3 together, but not this time around.

I haven't scanned all of the posts, but I am sure others will be running this event as well. Madison certainly has to be one of the greatest cities on the planet. Spent a year at (MATC) before transferring to a 4year school.

I didn't go on vacation but I hadn't heard from anyone!!

I went on a long run yesterday and it was JUST beautiful!! 50 degrees I went 7.5 miles but today I'm sore so I'm just going to bike at the gym.

How's everyone doing? Badgerland Striders do have their calendar up now.

Jen-I didn't get to do the Chilly Chippewa in March. My schedule so far for this summer is to just get through Grandma's and then after that do some 5ks which I haven't picked out which ones yet. Then I want to be ready for the Carson 10 in Oct. Are you planning on coming up for any races?

Jennifer,

I wanted to do the RCU Charity Run but I have something for work that weekend - dangit!!

I'm looking up races right now and I really really want to do the 1/2 marathon in Chippewa in August but I'm scared!! My long runs are about 8 miles right now and I just don't know if I would be able to finish.

I'm so happy for you that you're doing Grandma's - what an experience! I would come and watch if it weren't for work!

well, how did anybody do at the badgerland striders half marathon?
I was going to run it because I had a great time last year, but a friend came back to Madison from Washington DC so I had to play basketball with him instead.
I exercise lots but this was the first basketball in about a year for me, I played pretty well but I am so unbelievably sore now!
How did the weekend go for the rest of you?

Hey Wisconsinites!
Just wondering who has ran in the Crazylegs in Madison? My fiance and I are newbie's and have only been running for about a month now...we're slow and overweight but can plug along for about 3 miles without being run ragged. We ran our first 5K race after 4 weeks of training in just under 33 minutes. Would we be stupid to attempt the Crazylegs? I heard it's a great time but also don't want to be "unprepared" and try to finish it? Advice? Suggestions?

Never done crazylegs so no advice from me.

I was out for a 5 mile walk with my SIL and when we finished I had decided that I had had enough of fighting the wind and so I went to the gym and used the TM to get a 4 mile run in. I am hoping that the wind dies down before this weekend.

Hi all....I am in the Madison area (Cottage Grove). I am looking for a good 20 mile route - does anyone have any suggestions?

I heard the Military Ridge bike path has mile markers, but I have never been on it....I appreciate any ideas....
