MrClean - good luck at Lake Mills - you'll love it. It's a fun tri, well organized and all very do-able distances. I've done it past couple years and hopefully go back this year, but is only a few weeks before Grandma's marathon. So i gotta wait and see. BTW - Lake Mills doesn't supply swimcaps like alot of tris do, so make sure you bring one.

Wisconsin runners are great. I can always find something in common with someone whom I meet on a run. At events there are some people who know me by my name who say "hi"; but once in a while I can't even remember their names. The mild winter here has made it easier to run and keep oneself in shape. I'm sure there are warmer climates for runners, but not much better ones this year, up until now at least.

Hey Everyone!!Well the training for Grandmas took a bad bump in the road. We had a family emergency last week and so I was not out running at all. But this morning I was back in the saddle and out for a great run. I just have to remind myself that in stressful situations a run is the best thing you can do for yourself. I am really not looking forward to the snow coming our way but it looks like you guys in the Southern part of the state are going to get the most. If anything it just means I am back in the TM. I am seriously considering making it to the Chilly Chippewa. Should be a fun time. 122 days til Grandma's!!! Hope everyone is doing great!! ------------------ Jennifer Current Weight-203.5 Valentine's Challenge - Goal 195

Anyone considering The Point Bock Run? Last year it was a pretty fast race. This year they will have chip timing and are planning more after race festivities. I am looking forward to it.

MTP will be there -St Point put on 2 really nice events each year - 5/10 miler in December and the Point Bock 5 miler in March. As stated this is a fast course - Weather permitting. All the Point Bock beer and rootbeer you can drink afterward and this year they promise additional treats? + Brats for sale. Very Competative Race in the open division with a Big Bock(200-219#) and a Dopple Bock (220#+) Division. Perfect for us WI runners who may have packed a few on this winter. Winner is usually sub 25:00 and I believe the course record is something like 23:30-23:50 range. If the weather is good - It is worth the drive from anywhere in the state. - No I am not associated with the race in any way.

WI MTP, Did you see the article about the Point Bock in last month's Runners World? They had it written that there were 1000 participants last year. I haven't looked at last years results but I don't think they had even 500 people. Still, I like the race and plan to go.

No on the article - sounds like a big round up400-500 people is a perfect number for this 5 mile race. Their website appears in need of additional work this year - I did not see last years results. I will be there in the Big Bock division to avenge getting nosed out at the finish and getting 2nd last year. MTP

It is sooo cold. I guess I will be on the treadmill for a few days. Makes me thankful for all of the mild weather this year. Have a nice weekend everyone! Marie

Hey WI runners - What is your general rule for run / don't run outside in winter.I don't like ice, but cold is not as much as a factor. 1) Little to no wind - 15F below is OK 2) High Wind - 0F is OK Although I have been a little wimpier this year with the treadmill.

Hasn't been too cold yet to keep me in - I remember doing a 12 mile run in 9 below once. I'll go 5 tonight and it is below zero here in Eau Claire today (Friday). Probably will have to pull out the coolmax facemask - last resort for cold weather.

I like to stay indoors because I figure the treadmill is less shocking to these beat-up joints than hard frozen ground. These days I base going outside more with sunlight. If the sun is out, I try to get out and get my vitamin D.I can't imagine Point Bock with 1,000 runners. I've run it a couple times and I've never been able to get my booty up to the bar for a drink it's so crowded.

Hey Everyone! How did everyone fair with the snow on Thursday?? We pretty much just got a dusting here since we were on the north end of the storm. This weekend though was another story with the cold. As for running outside I seem to be drawing the line with a lot of things lately. I have to do my long runs outside but that's only cuz I can't amuse myself for very long. But I think now that I have the TM option I don't force myself outside. Wind is bad anytime. Icey conditons cuz I have a hard enough time keeping myself upright without that in the mix Temps have to be above Zero Hope everyone is having great runs!!! ------------------ Jennifer Current Weight-204.5 Easter Weight Loss Challenge - Goal 195

Hey everyone!Ouch that snow on Thursday was a killer but for the past 2 weeks I've been using the treadmill at the gym. I've managed to sneak in a few 1 hour runs but usually we're limited to 20 minutes so I get off and do some other machine for 20 minutes and then re-sign up so I've really been working on speed, which isn't a bad thing. I have lost 5 pounds!! YAY me! I didn't think it was possible to lose weight How's everyone else doing? I would love to make it to the Chippewa 5K but I won't be able too. How's the 1/2 in Chippewa? Does anyone know? ------------------ Jenn

Did my first 5 miler post-injury outside today--20ish degrees with a little wind action.I saw the Stevens Point race in my Runners World today. Anybody who's done it before think it's a "don't miss for anything" kind of race? I know I'm not really ready...but I did love that outdoors feeling on my run this morning. (Down with the treadmill! Down!)

Gretchie Lou, I think the Point Bock is a pretty good race for central WI. A nice festive atmosphere with friendly volunteers and racers. If the weather is even half way decent it will be a good race. I also can't wait to get outside more often. My treadmill screen went dead. The belt still turns so I can still use it but it really makes it that much more boring. Hope your injury continues to get better.[This message has been edited by runmarie (edited Feb-27-2006).]

I do not think that it is the greatest race. But it is a real good race in the middle of winter - This is an oddity in WI. I would rank it as my top winter race (Dec 21-Mar 21) but it would fall outside my top 5 races for the whole year.Latest forecast 31F and cloudy - Which won't be bad if the roads are free of slippery stuff.

MTP-- I know there is a carpool going if you're interested. If like the last SP trip they meet by the shopping center by the 441 and 10 interchange. sue

I appreciate the offer / idea - I think I am bringing the family - I hope the streets are clear. It will be a good run either way - I may even qualify for the Dopple Bock division(>220#) if I am not careful. See you there-

Ok this may be a lame attempt at having Wisconsin fall off the 1st page of this forum - but...What is your favorite WI - April race I would have to vote for Badger Striders 1/2 marathon April 8th in Milwaukee. Nice low key event - You get more than you pay for $6 in advance and $8 day of race. Good running to all - The season is fresh and new and full of promise.

Ok I don't have a favorite April race since I just convinced myself last summer to start going to races. For some reason I am really nervous about my 10miler this weekend. But once I am out and on the road it will be fine I'm sure. Have a great weekend!!

the only ones I can think that I've done are: Dick Lytie half in Green Bay ----- challenging, gives you a closer view of what your marathon time may be.
Run for Home Appelton--always Cold!!! good food afterwards Marian Sabre in Fondy-- windy..eh...wouldn't do again Hatten Park Trophy Runs--did last year.....you're on you own, a very good idea for a training run if you're trying to nail a pace down it's a mile loop (kinda, it's short, so the mile marker is a little different). Everyone that finishes gets a trophy. I really liked actually seeing everyone else as you loop, and it was fun for me to "try" and not be lapped by those fast guys.....they got me in the last 1/4 mile of their last lap. curses!!! Crazy Legs--- A must do once in your life. I've done it twice. The hills are a blast. I thought I'd fall on my face a few times going down. I almost had that feel of being 3yrs old and going down too fast and screaming "weeeeeeeeeee" You can see the amazing fast people ahead of you and it's fun. Only top 3 finishers are recognized, so don't expect to win an AG award or anything. I'm doing the Strider Half this year.

Are you referring to the Badgerland Strider South Shore Half Marathon on April 8? I think I'm going to do that one as well. Currently training for the Cellcom Green Bay marathon, May 21, and hoping to do Chicago in October.I was hoping to use the South Shore Half as a "preferred start" qualifying time for Chicago, until I found out it was an un0certified course. I e-mailed the Chicago Marathon contact address and asked if that race was acceptable, and they replies that it would be OK, as long as they had printed race results that I could FAX to them. ------------------ - Larry - My Profile

They will post the results on http://www.badgerlandstriders.org/ I ran this 1/2 last year and found it fairly flat and a nice finish area.

Another Wisconsinite here and new to this forum. I live in central WI where it's currently sunny and fairly mild.I did read that a few people here were thinking of coming over for the Bock Run, if you did I hope you enjoyed the day. The weather cooperated and the turnout was great. Moving the beer set up outside was a good move, made things less congested inside.
