RFF - are you doing the Badgerland Striders 20K on September 1? I am considering doing it as a tune-up race. Do you have any experience with this race/course?

No - YesGoing to the Badger - Washington State football game with my wife. I ran it last year - It is a great - Low key race. Just the basics. Almost all of it is run on a paved bike path - very parkish race course - A couple of tiny ups and downs early on - That nearly flat for 8-9 miles than a couple of tiny ups and down to the finish. Well run - Enough water stops, but don't skip any - they are not plentiful. At the end the food is simple and they had water / rootbeer and beer. Awards are ribbons like you got in grade school track and field. But for $6 or $7 what do you expect. If you want to run a good fast course - with a healthy amount of competition (Enough to run around people, but will not impede your race) - Go for it. Last year I ran the 1st 10 miles at MP and then ran as fast as I could to the finish. 10 - 62:30 2.42 - 13:49 It gave me a lot of confidence -

I've got the Tyranena 1/2 on my "tentative" list (assuming my back/sciatica problem continues to improve). I've never done it,last year was the first running, as far as I know. A friend of mine did the 4.5 mile race, he said it was a good time, and fairly well run. It seems a little expensive to me ($60 for the 1/2 including a t-shirt, "dinner", and two beer tickets - they could at least give you unlimited beer....), but with all the other races I've had to skip this summer, it won't be a hardship. Maybe we'll see you there. ------------------ - Larry - Boston 2007, 3:53:05 Madison 2007, 3:40:51 Next: Boston Marathon 4.21.08 My Profile [This message has been edited by lstall (edited Sep-06-2007).]

Just wondering if any of you Wisconsinites have ever done the Kickapoo Dam Challenege? It's a 7 mile canoe/kayak paddle, a 14 mile bike ride, and a 3 mile cross country run. I'm not "training" for it per se, but am going to give it a try on October 6th, and was hoping someone could tell me about it if they have done it!

I'm from Green Bay. I did the CellCom half marathon a year ago, and have done the Bellin (6.2) for several years. I'm enjoying these last couple of months running outside before the weather turns nasty and we're forced inside running on a treadmill. Go Pack!

Just giving us a little bump back up the list - how are all of you doing with your fall runs? 36 degrees at 6:15 this morning sure woke me up!I've been working my way through some hip and thigh issues; still running but definitely no speedwork. I may try to do the Jingle Bell in Madtown this December.

I love Wisconsin in the fall. The colors changing and the smells are awesome! I put on the ol' running pants and long sleeves and head out the door. Too bad it's dark so early though.

Hello everyone, I'm from Mayville, WI. I've been running for about 9 months, and am planning on running in the Cellcomm/Green Bay 1/2 in May. Maybe a 5k or 2 in the meantime. Wish I would have found this thread last spring...Kevin

Welcome, Kevin! I ran the GB 1/2 this year - it was so cold that morning! I'll likely be there again next spring.I'm thinking about trying my first full mary next fall. Any recommendations as to which one I should run? I don't want anything too hilly for my first time out.

hi everyone!i just completed marathon #5 this past sunday. it was at NYC and i have to say, it is now officially my most favorite marathon!!! it was an incredible weekend and i have nothing but amazing memories from it.. it was also a very difficult course with treacherous rolling hills and 4 ascending bridges but i trained hard and did my hill repeats faithfully and i'm happy to say i ended up with a 22 min PR and finished in 4:15. in terms of a flat, fall marathon in the area, i would recommend either lakeshore or chicago. in general, i recommend the first marathon to be a mega one like chicago simply because during your first marathon, one really needs the amazing million+ people strong support. it truly is a phenomenal experience.. and why not share it with the best in chicago?? happy fall/heading into winter running all!!!

GaelicTempest - Depends on what you wantChicago has a million - billion runners and spectators - It will likely take you 10+ minutes to cross the start line - unless you get a seeded start. The 3 I would consider as I am not into huge crowds. http://www.foxcitiesmarathon.org/ - 9/21/08 http://www.badgerlandstriders.org/lfm/index.html -10/5/08 http://www.whistlestopmarathon.com/ - likely 10/11/08 Fox Cities has a couple of hills, but on a "hardness" scales 1-10 a 2 or 3. About 1000 in the marathon and another 1500 in the 1/2. You can sign up the week of usually Milwaukee is a very well run - Fast marathon - It filled to its 2,500 runner capacity in July or August this year The Whistle Stop is in Ashland and is run on a crushed limestone trail, It drops something like 600 verticle feet over the 26.2 miles. This race is on Saturday and although you can sign up the week of the race, I would suggest booking your hotel early - you can always cancel. About 750 runners in the marathon, but also includes a 5k-10k and 1/2 marathon. If you do not like running alone - Maybe you should not pick this one. Others to consider - Grand Rapids - Last Sunday of October - well run smallish race Twin Cities(MN) - This is the race that has big crowd support and @ 9,500 runners - If you want the big race feel without the super sized race hassels - This ones for you. You have to signup early (March or April) it usually hits capacity in 3 weeks. The course is generally beautiful and easy to run - Except miles 20-23 There are 3 not so nice miles. They really are not that bad, but to have a couple of decent hills toward the end of the race is a little cruel. That being said - I may do Chicago this year, but I can likely get in the 1st coral, so I will not have to deal with the ugly crowded race course.

RichardC - How'd the Trot go?Wow this November weather has been pretty good - I feel the impending doom of winter setting in - This winter I will have to suck it up and embrace cool mornings or I will never get back into shape. This year I want to be ready for the unofficial kick off to the 2008 season - the Point Bock 5 miler - March 1st. Well run, Great Competition and all the Point Bock or Point Root beer you care for. Last year it snowed the night before, but come race time the course was clean and dry even though all the side roads to park on were slushy and icky - I am not sure how they do it, but it is definately a runners race. 102 days until March 1st to get back into shape - What do you consider the 1st "real" race of the season? Or the kick off race to the 2008 season. BTW I plan on running a 5k 1/1/08, but its not a goal race. Good running to all -
