Hi all, I'm new to running (W5 of c25k) and am in West Bend. So far so good, I can see why my sisters say running is addictive! My goal is the 5k distance for now. Once that's reached, who knows how far I'll go?

Athletictrainer22How did the Carson 10 mile go for you. I was there. Hope it was good and you are still thinking about Grandma's, it is a great race. ------------------ "Everything you're sure is right can be wrong in another place." Stuff About Me!

To all of you Wisconsin runners, it's good to hear you're out there and that there's a Wisconsin thread now. Let's keep it going. To Steve, I'm happy to admit I'm from the Southeast portion of the state too. I grew up in Kenosha and have done the Turkey Day 10K in K-town for the last three years. I froze my butt off last week. Now I live in northern Wisconsin. My goal for 2006 is to complete my first half marathon. That was my goal for '05 but I didn't train adequately. I just started a month ago with a running schedule so I'm back reading the Cool Running forums again to keep me motivated. I hope 2006 is a great running year for all in Wisconsin. tts

I am from the Marshfield area of central WI. I did the Whistlestop 1/2 in 04 and Grandma's 1/2 in 04 and 05. One of my goals is to get in 35 miles per week all winter. I am running the Frostbite 5 in Stevens Point this Saturday. Happy Running!

another proud Wisconsinite. I'm currently in Neenah.lebooth--I grew up doing the reverse. My runs in NE WI found me in Upper MI. marie- I'm thinking of the frostbite tomorrow. I hate to admit it, but I'm scared of how cold it will be. It's embarrassing to admit, but I've been on the 'mill alot. WI races that I've not done yet and would like to: Lakefront marathon. Racine Lighthouse. WI races that I hate to miss: Bellin 10k and Otto Grunski 10K

Sue, Don't let the cold keep you from the Frostbite. It is supposed to be sunny so that will be nice and hopefully not much wind. I am really looking forward to it. I have not raced since September. Good Luck to you if you go to the race. Marie

Sorry I'm just finding this now, I'm not sure I've ever ventured into "the neighborhood" before now. I am from WI. Madison. I ran the berbee derby. I thought I would lose a finger to frostbite. I may run the Madison Marathon, but not all out since I have a few of my key races in the following weeks as part of prep fro IM WI - my first IM. i am also seeking all 50 states marathons, but I wont be a good carpooler b/c I always bring the whole fam with me. next marathons will be Austin, TX in feb, and Nashville, TN in Apr.Jan-do you know my dad? his name is also Joe Ketarkus, he's an EMS specialist - I saw your pic in your fireman getup so I thought maybe... ------------------ Joe Ketarkus http://interwovendesign.com/kick/userdisplay.php3?username=jjketark

It was a "bit" nippy at frost bite. My toes (I made a poor choice of shoes--all mesh) never got warm. Wow!! There were some really fast guys there!!!!

originally from Negaunee, MI (UP), lived 10 years just south of Milwaukee, and currently live in Florida. I love the summers and fall in Wisconsin but I've come to enjoy the Florida winters. A great race is the Torch run in Racine, WI. (5k 10k and 15k)Ray

Born and raised in Waukesha. I currently live in Silver Spring, MD, literally a half mile from DC. I went to Whitewater - did you all know they are in the D3 football semifinals next weekend for the national championships? They beat the #1 ranked team last night, and have been ranked #2 all season.

I live about 30 min. south of Madison (Milton). I blew off the Berbee Derby on Thanksgiving, was signed up for the 10K but figured the wind was just not worth fighting. I ran the Jingle Bell 5K in Janesville yesterday morning, light wind before the snow hit. Set a PR 21:39 ! I run lots of races in Madison: Crazylegs, Meriter Nurses 10K, Mad-City Half and Full marathon, Syttende Mai 20 miler, Badger State 10K to name a few. ------------------ - Larry - My Profile

Happy 2006 my fellow Wisconsin-ites!Since one of my goals this year is to complete my first (and hopefully more) 5k, is there a website or running club around that lists races that would be fairly close to me? ------------------ Tandi "If I'm not back in 5 minutes.....just wait longer."

Anyone run the New Years Day Dash in Middleton? Very cool, 5 miler. They gave out Pint Beer Glasses with the date, etc. A nice low key way to kick of 2006.

I did not end up running the Carson 10 but did end up running the Frigid 8 in Chippewa. It was a good time. I am hoping that my 2006 schedule will allow me to do Carson. Now I am on to training for Grandma's I guess that I still have 3 weeks to back out but I think I am committed or should be committed . I started training this week. Hope everyone had a great New Years!!!

Wow! this thread is still going. Cool! I'll admit I have been away for a couple of months but I'm still running. Lost close to 10lbs over the last couple of months. I want to do one of those sprint distance triathlons. Any training advise is welcome. Later and happy 06'

Hey MrClean, Congrats on the weight loss. I am also in Wisconsin (West Bend area)! I guess I missed this post awhile back. Are there any good races coming up? My goal is to run the 1/2 marathon this summer in Chippewa Falls, WI. Is anyone going to run the Snowball 5K in Eau Claire on January 21? ------------------ Jenn

I am from UP of Michigan but work in Wisconsin. I lived in Madison for 5 years and lived in Appleton for 11 years. We hope to return to WI some day. I have done the Fox Cities Marathon and Half Marathon (different years) and the Green Bay Half Marathon. Many years ago I als did the run between Stoughton and Madison (Syttende Mai). I always enjoyed running in WI.

One of my teammates just received their award for the Berbee Derby. One of my other teammates is STILL waiting. And for the record, it's nothing worth waiting for. If you're thinking about running in next year's event for the awards, forget it, it's a 50-cent medallion that they didn't even bother to personalize. ------------------ Endurance Athlete Sponsors

why wasn't it given out at race day? ****rant on**** please don't tell me they ran out? I'm not big on awards.....but if its going to be a cheap medallion that doesn't have age group place, etc.....how the heck can you run out??? Have a few extra handy for goodness sakes what's an extra 5 bucks. **rant off**

Jen-Are you planning on doing the Pure Water Days Half. Sounds like a good time but the hill is a killer. As for the Snowball 5K I am still undecided. I have to run a 7 mile training run on Sun so the 5K probably just isn't in the cards. Training for the Marathon is going ok. Registration comes out this week!! Hope everyone is doing great!!

I see they cancelled the Snowball 5K for Jan 21 in Eau Claire due to construction. So the next race in the area here is the Chilly Chippewa 5K on March 4th. ------------------ Jennifer
