Thanks, that sounds like a good one, if the weather cooperates. Do you know if they allow registration on the day of the race? Thanks, - Larry -

I am not sure if there is race day registration. I have heard that it fills up quickly and they close registration, however, as they cap it. I did not see any info on a cap though on their website...just what I have heard. I heard it usually fills after a couple of weeks.

The website says no race day registration. Unfortunately, I have heard they close registration pretty quickly too (within a couple of weeks) as they cap it at 1000 registrants. http://www.hillstriders.com/ - check out the FAQ for more.....

Thank you everyone for all the info. I haven't been able to check in earlier, due to selling/ buying a house. I'm looking forward to moving to De Pere, my parents have lived in Green Bay for a number of years. I've visited the area quite a few times. Everybody is always so friendly. I'll sign up for the Feb race in De Pere, sounds like fun. I'm sure I won't break any records, but it will give me something to look forward to. The race through Lambeau filed sounds like fun too. We are not huge followers of football, but everyone tells me that will change once we move to the area. Hmmm, fried cheese curds, sounds interesting. DH is a cheese addict. He can't wait to try them.

ALERT ALERT ALERT Are you talking about a bruise. As in a large area discolored by blood from ruptured veins under the skin? You might have a deep vein thrombosis. This is not to be taken lightly. The discoloration is dried (coagulated) blood that has leak from a ruptured vein. Vigorous activity could cause a part of the dried blood to break free into the blood stream and cause a blockage. Blockages are what cause heart attacks and strokes. But in the case of DVT pulmonary embolism (blockage in lung) is the main concern (veins lead away from the organs and to the lungs). http://www.webmd.com/hw/heart_disease/aa68137.asp SEE A DOCTOR SEE A DOCTOR SEE A DOCTOR SEE A DOCTOR SEE A DOCTOR SEE A DOCTOR

I updated the marathon and half schedule again. It's on page 11 of this thread. A couple new ones and some dates and links have been added.[This message has been edited by edgeman (edited Jan-08-2007).]

Brrr. It finally feels like a Wisconsin winter now. Did 6.5 today and had to wear hat and gloves for the first time in quite awhile.Anyone have any races coming up soon? I think I'm doing the Samson Stomp in Milwaukee on the 21st and the Valentines 5k in Feb. Happy running!

I'm a Badger like the rest of you and I'm just looking for some advice. I'm making the Green Bay Half my running goal for the spring....never run a half before. Ran a handful of 5K's and want to increase my endurance so that's why I'm targeting a half marathon. My goal is not to break any time barriers but rather to finish with minimal walking and not feel like I got hit by a mack truck at the end of the race. I was planning on using the half marathon training plan they promote on the website. http://www.cellcomgreenbaymarathon.com/training/pdf/TrainCal_half.pdf First time I've ever tried to link to a .pdf so I'm not sure it will work. What do all of you veteran runners think about this plan? I started a little early I'm repeating some of the weeks

arotrame-Looks like basically 3 days running - With one long run and 1 day cross training ? Where are you coming from - Fitness wise? What is your typical week like now / before you started on this plan? If it were me, I would consider making the Wednesday cross training an easy 3 mile run or at least something aerobic - I think if you can do this program it will get you to you stated goal - Complete a 1/2 marathon with minimal walking. Save some of the good beer for me at the finish line. With Beer and Brats as part of the finish line food - the only thing that could make it better is deep fried cheese curds ! Where are you from?

WI MTP - thanks for your response. I'm from the southwest corner of Wisconsin, near Platteville, WI and Dubuque, IA. I would say my current fitness level is probably not where it needs to be. I was running about 15 MPW early in the fall but then broke my ankle playing VB and since I coach basketball and the season started...I've been a little lax in getting back in shape. Last night I ran an "medium 2" and ran a 10:09 pace...I felt good all the way through and probably could have ran harder now that I think about it. I like your suggestion of adding a run in on the Wednesday cross training day. On occassion I have some soreness in my ankle after running so I'll probably be playing it by ear. My goal is to run the GB half because it's convenient (my DH's family lives in the area) but if I don't feel prepared I can always run one later in the year.

arotrame - A piece of adviceTraining for a half marathon is not like what you expect out of volleyball and baskeyball athletes - full effort all the time. The key to building to runnign success is to understand the purpose of each days run and run at a spead that meets that purpose. Lets say today is 3 easy and tomorrow is 8 long. If today you crank out 3 hard - it will not leave your muscles in the poper state to have a good 8 long workout. Its not about intensity - its about training at the correct intensity. Also a training program is a guide - Your fitness level on May 20th is not about any one run - it is the cumulative effect of all those training runs. Missing any one run will not kill you, but missing a 10 miler will effect you more than missing a 3 miler. Training schedules often have to be adapted for real life. Enjoy the training - ITs been a long time since I've been to Platteville - 15 years - And the memories are beer clouded.

I may have been at my fittest running up and down the bluffs of Dubuque. When was that? 10 years ago? Yikes. Great club there: The Mississippi Valley Running Club. They very early every Saturday (joined them more than once with a hangover) and ended with a donut stop. My kind of club. Still, they kicked me into 10K shape, alright.

WOW so I think that we have finally gotten winter in WI. Hoping that the roads are all cleared off tonight so I can get out for a run. Not that we got a bunch of snow but I am a worry wort when it comes to running in the snow. All those hidden icy patches have gotten me before.

Funny - or not - but I usually fall 2-3 times in the winter, but more than that the rest of the year. I probably should start wearing a helmet.

Its snowing here. I'll have to get out to run in it soon. Playoffs keeping me inside for now but nothing better than running in the snow even in the dark. I hope it sticks.

Here too. We took our kids to an indoor waterpark this weekend - it was weird swimming while watching the snow pour on down. I did my 8 on the treadmill (!) when I got home. Go Bears and Colts! I was happy with both wins so now I am torn . . . .

I feel compelled to cheer against the Bears although I'm no Patriots fan. I was rooting against the Bears all along so maybe thats been the problem.
