It should be decent temps though and a lot of fun. Good cause too - I raised $200! Arthritis is not a friend in my circle!Good luck to you on Saturday - let me know how your run goes!
Yes, I'm still in for the Jingle Bell run - should be a cold one! I'm only doing the 5k. And like you said, I think it will just be a fun run. Good luck tomorrow- have a good race!

Hi all Wisconsinites ~I hope you got our for a run today - it was a heat wave here! 30 degrees I actually didn't have to wear a face mask plus I could bring my MP3 player. I'm having a lot of trouble with my right shin lately. Plus, I have a HUGE clot on it, too. Any suggestions on this would be greatly appreciated!! I don't know what the deal is. But, see, I LOVE to eat so I have to run Hope all is well with everyone!! ------------------ Jenn

Where are all the Badgers??Hope everyone had a good Christmas! The weather has been great for running, here in the Janesville area. Boston training off to a good start. Doing the Pfitz 18/55 again. A little concerned about the lack of tune-up races in February and March. So far the only ones I know of are a Valentine's 5K in Feb. at the UW, and the Shamrock 10K in March (also Madison). There's a 10-miler in Black Earth I usually do on the first weekend in April, but I'm afraid it's too close to taper time. Anyone know of any other races, 10-15K preferrably? Happy New Year to all!! ------------------ - Larry - Next: Boston 2007 My Profile

Larry,I am in the same boat as you. I just started my Pfitz 18/55 for Boston too and have found only the races you mention. Not many races, but here is what I have so far (includes the ones you mentioned): 1/1/07 - New Years Day Dash - Middleton (a little early, but I think it is nice to watch progress through training - especially on only a few hours of sleep) 1/21/07 - Freeze for Food (5K and 10K), Vilas Park, Madison 2/11/07 - Valentine's Fun Run (5K), Madison 3/3/07 - World Championship 50 Furlong (6.25 mi) - Madison 4/1 - Black Earth 10 miler Let me know if you have of any more in the meantime and I will do the same. Too bad there aren't many longer races in the early spring. Good luck on the training! [This message has been edited by runninlaw (edited Dec-27-2006).]

Hello everyone,I have been peeking in, but haven't posted before. My name is Nicole, and I've been running for about a year. I have recently been slacking off, due to a variety of reasons, but have started picking up my training again. Hubby, kids and I are moving from Connecticut to De Pere at the end of January. I noticed that they have a fun run scheduled there on Feb10th. Has anyone ever participated in this before? I'm just trying to schedule some race, so I don't quit again over this stressful moving period. Any feedback on the race or other upcoming races would be greatly appreciated.

HI Nicole,Yes, I did the Valentine's Run in DePere last year and will do it this year. Link below. There is a 5K and 15k event. It is a nice run to give you the fever for spring racing season or to see where your conditioning is. It is located in downtown. Seroogy's Chocolates is a sponsor. Should be fun - maybe I'll I see you. How do you feel about moving to Green Bay/DePere area? Are you a Packer fan? You will find out that this community revolves around the Packers. http://www.midwestsportsevents.com/events.php?EventID=12 Todd ------------------ My Profile

Nicole - This will be a fun lower key race - How fun may depend of the temps and how slippery it is out. Welcome to the area - Races are a little thin this time of year, so you have to take advantage of the ones that are available. Green Bay has a nice running club if you are interested in the social aspects of running. I would pen 2 races on your calender to get the full Green Bay experience. May 20th - Green Bay Marathon, 1/2 Marathon and 5K - They all finish by going through Lambeau field. June 9th - Bellin 10K - The Bellin is one of the 10 biggest 10ks in the USA - They have elites to walkers - You need to do Bellin at least once - One thing about many of the races in the summer, they are part of small town Wisconsin festivals. Like the 1st Saturday in August - Seymour Bun Run - Part of the Hambuger festival - They claim to be the home of the hamburger. You could do the ketchup slip and slide BTW - Deep fried cheese curds are something you need to try - yummy.

I'm in Neenah!I was supposed to run in a New Year's Eve fun run yesterday but I was coming off a nasty case of stomach flu that I contracted over Christmas. It really took a lot out of me. I didn't eat hardly anything for almost a week and didn't run either. Anyway, I'm feeling much better now and am looking forward to the Green Bay Cellcom half. I've only done three 5Ks since starting running in March 2006, and wanted to set a big goal for myself. I'm addicted! Happy New Year!

justrunmore - You may wany to consider coming to a few pacesetter runs - They meet on T/TH for informal runs and SA/SU for more of a group run - You do not have to be a member to come to these runs.http://www.pacesettersrun.com/ Also - 2nd Wednesday of each month is a fun run - Social type event - With some food afterward. I am only marginally active as I am more of a loner. I usually come to 1-2 fun runs and 5-6 SA/SU runs a year. If you do not want to try now - I would strongly encourage coming to SA or SU or Both starting in March - The memebers are great at helping people.

WI MTP -- Thanks for the info on the PaceSetters. I'm aware of the group but for a number of reasons probably won't participate, at least for awhile, as I need to build up my confidence. I could also refer to myself as antisocial or a loner, too, but I do prefer solitude on a run. I've only been doing this less than a year and still don't feel like a "real" runner. (When do you get that feeling, by the way?)

Larry (and anyone else looking for spring tune-up races),I just found out there is a spring half marathon on March 18 in Cary, IL (near Crystal Lake). It is a bit of a drive, but is supposed to be a challenging course and a great tune-up race. Looks like a perfect fit for Boston training. Check it out: March Madness Half Marathon

There is also a new half-marathon set for April 13 in Oshkosh.Nicole, I did the DePere Valentine's run last year and plan to do it again this year. It was a nice 5K. AND the best part is you get a chocolate bar. :-D Did anyone do the New Year's Eve run in Neenah?
