I was wondering if anyone had a favorite running store in new york. My preference is for the Upper East Side but I'll go anywhere. I want one of those stores where they watch your stride, look at your old shoes, the whole works. Thanks!

I'd checkout the Running Company in the Time-Warner Bldg. They seem pretty complete.

Urban Athletics in the World Financial Center will take the time to review your stride and such. They have you run outside. I haven't been there in a few years because I've discovered...JackRabbit in park Slope, Brooklyn. http://www.jackrbt.com/ They have a treadmill and video camera on the shop floor. Their most knoledgable saleperson is Johanna, so call ahead and make sure she's working the day you want to visit. The shop was also given a favorable review by the NY Times a few months back. The 2/3 line runs a few blocks from the shop

Super Runners Shop is 90 something and Lex - not far from NYRRC offices - I've heard mixed reviews about them

I go to Super Runner's Shop because they are the only store in NYC that I've been able to find that carries my running shoes (Asics GT 2100 - so common, yet so hard to find here). I think NYC, strangely enough, doesn't have that many options for runners. Boston was much, much better. They're at Grand Central, 72nd and 3rd, and 89th and 3rd or Lex. They've always been very professional and nice when I've gone there. Jackrabbit in Park Slope has this running analysis thing that might be better, though.

I second what Stone Soup says about Super Runners on 89th and Lex. They’ve always been as nice as can be, they know their products very well, and once exchanged a pair of Sauconys that gave me blisters, no questions asked. They EXPECT you to take the shoes out on the sidewalk for a run.
Stone Soup, is your name from the famous children’s story? MG

It's actually from this children's literary magazine that I remember from my dentist's office when I was a kid. It's a book, too, though. I was undoubtedly too busy reading Ramona the Pest to peruse it, but the name stuck with me. Am I dating myself here? quote: Originally posted by MGinNYC: I second what Stone Soup says about Super Runners on 89th and Lex. I remember the series very well. (Though I’ll be tactful and say that Cleary was writing through the 1990s).Doing the Anniversary Run this weekend? MG

My vote is for Super Runners Shop on 72nd and 3rd-best salesperson (and I think the store owner too?) is Mike-he knows his stuff-he put me in a pair of Nimbuses that I love (after a previous salesperson misdiagnosed me and put me in Kayanos and Hurricanes.) Good return policy as well-I had to exchange 2 pairs that weren't working for me and they took em back, no questions asked (of course both pairs only had 5 miles each on them and were pretty much clean.)------------------ Miss Independent
