Cool, I'll probably at least drop in for a few of those. Thanks! So, anyone run the marathon today? I watched from 4th & Alma, at 20 miles. I'd thought half seriously about running the half, but even though I didn't really run a thoroughly draining race at Boston (walked off cramps most of the last 5 miles), still, it was just two weeks ago, and I let common sense prevail. i ran the half...I think it's probably the hardest 1/2 out of the 4 I've done...The long hill at Prospect Point was well, long... Even the first few miles were undulating with plenty of turns. Time was 1:26:12, a 1 min PR, I was aiming for a 1:25 but I figured that was good time for such a tough course...I'll probably do better on a flatter and faster course. I'll post a report later this evening. Report: http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/Forum8/HTML/007262.shtml[This message has been edited by TimRuns (edited May-01-2005).]

Thank you for suggestion Andele, but I believe that I am far behind runners that will participate in this clinic. I will have to do a lot of work on base, before I start with speed work, so I was looking for less structured running group with pace similar to mine...Anyways, I might drop by Brockton Oval one evening to see how more advanced runners are training...Congratulations to all finishers of both full and half marathon today - it was good race today (I watched it along Pacific Avenue). Tim... That hill is beeatch. Used to be part of the Full course. Plan was to phase it out for the Half also, but the Parks board won't give permission to use the Seawall. The hill adds about a minute, so a sub 1:25 would be a good bet for the Scotibank Half. One-eighty... you'd fit into the Wed nite group - plenty of runners at your speed & motivation. At this point, you don't need to worry about blocking off a base phase. Tim/Bob... you'd get a better benefit training with VFAC... more runners at your level or faster. Lucked into a free entry, so I jumped into the marathon at the last minute and ran it (under an alias) as a training run... a little faster than I probably should have, but I wanted to keep my streak of sub-3s going. I'll be at the Mothers Day 8k this Sat.

I didn't mind it so much last year, but it was my first half marathon, so it was going to be a PR no matter what. quote: Tim/Bob... you'd get a better benefit training with VFAC... more runners at your level or faster.
OK, thanks. quote: Lucked into a free entry, so I jumped into the marathon at the last minute and ran it (under an alias) as a training run... a little faster than I probably should have, but I wanted to keep my streak of sub-3s going.
Oh, I must have missed you. I was watching at 20 miles until at least the 3:20ish crowd passed. quote: I'll be at the Mothers Day 8k this Sat.
I think I'll give it a go as well. Have you done it before? What's the course like? The site gives no hint about hills. Bob

I did the 8k last year... It was a very convenient location for me...just 5-10 min's drive from home. Prepare for an undulating/rolling course but I won't sweat too much about the hills...they aren't terrible if you've trained in the Vancouver area.[This message has been edited by TimRuns (edited May-03-2005).]

Photos are now posted: http://www.marathonfoto.com/home.cfm?Language=en&BFI=o7739spai6 Select Vancouver Marathon and type "Loh" and "9865" in the Last Name and Bib # boxes respectively. They aren't that bad...only that I wished I have taken a haircut the day before the race (I like my hair very short usually)

So, who all was at the Mothers' Day 8K? I was, and was quite honored to place 3rd in my group. with Leah Pells 1st! Doesn't matter there was 10 WHOLE MINUTES between our times....

Hey, congrats, Maureen!I was planning to go, but I was, I thought, not quite over a cold (turns out it was just beginning ), and I felt like I wouldn't run my best. This weekend I think I'm probably up for a race - either the Reach Out and Run 10K, or the Ridge Meadows 10K. But 4 weeks after Boston, with the kind of mileage I've been putting in (not), I'm afraid I've lost too much fitness to do well. Bob

Congrats Maureen! Glad to hear that you have recovered... Anyone out for the Scotiabank half on June 26? I was thinking of doing this one but due to the early start and the location I may not be able to make it unless I find some way to get there...If not I'll probably switch to the Post to Post 10k on July 1st.

I already registered for the ScotiaBank half. After having the First Half fill up so early, I didn't want to take any chances... not that I think that's really an issue in this case. But at least this will add some motivation to train. Tim, you should do it, if you can find a way to get out here. You will get a fast time.

Do you really think so Bob? I did it last year and it was HOT, early start, I was still in line for porta-pot when gun went off after about 45 min of waiting in line................. The run is touted as all downhill................it isn't. It is a nice run, but not a guaranteed PR. A friend of mine was throwing up over Burrard St bridge cuz of the heat. Maybe it was my mood at the time, but that damned seawall went on and on forever!! In any case I will be running it, so if you wanna carpool I am game. I won't be backing out this time, knee is a-ok!!

Thanks Maureen, that'll be great...I'll email you as soon as I can..i also have to register for it...that'll probably be the most expensive half ($70!) I'll ever sign up for but I guess alot of money has to go to the organization of the point-to-point course, the shuttle from UBC to Stanley Park and back, and the high quality running shirt...therefore I shouldn't be complaining...

Yeah, it was hot last year, and not as easy a course as I expected. Still, I did shave off nearly 4 minutes vs. my time at the Vancouver half. This year, however, they've changed the course, and I'm not sure I like it. They replaced a few miles of nice, flat, scenic seawall with 10th, Blanca, and 16th, which has some topography. Why???? Also, the Burrard bridge is now closer to the finish. There's still the uphill onto 4th, rather than running through Jericho park. That was a nasty surprise for me last year, although it shouldn't have been. Is the start earlier this year? That should help if it's a hot day... Hi BobThanks for the map of the course. I just assumed that it would be the same as last year, so I appreciate the update. James

I registered for it again - did it last week and they still had spots. I think the 1st 1/2 has more demand - Scotia is fairly close the the Vancouver marathon. Ya, it was warm last year and that hill to 4th was much nastier than I thought it would be. This year I'm thinking of a singlet to stay cooler (sorry ladies). Start time is the same - 7:30 am. I heard a rumour that the Parks board doesn't want to close the seawall for events which would explain the change in route. Oh, well I'm committed - breaking in the new shoes, trying to train smarter and hoping for a PR. [This message has been edited by Tamblyn (edited May-16-2005).]

second page??? sheeeesh..............did the Masters Mile today..........my lack of training over the winter really showed, but the event was fun, anyway. I ran 6 16. Did 6 07 last year. This year was MUCH harder. Getting worried about the Scotia................. My training has been sporadic, at best. How is everybody? What have you been up to?

I'm in for Scotiabank-registered a couple of weeks ago online. I'm also officially registered for my first marathon on Tuesday night (RVM). Paid $105 for it including the pasta party-the most I've ever paid for a race. The hotel's been booked too...planning to go with a few friends. Less than 18 weeks left and counting down...Hopefully I'll stay healthy for the next few months while logging 70-80+ mpw and not fall apart...

Still working on my Scotia training. Started with too few weekly km's but things were going well until Monday which I scheduled for my 21 k long run. Between 10 and 11 k developed a numb feeling in my right leg behind the knee. Tried to run through it. Got to 13 k and couldn't keep it up. Ran/walked back to the car (was doing a loop). Very frustrating. Have been testing the knee all week with shorter runs and different combinations of shoes and shorts (am thinking my new tighter compression shorts pressed on my sciatic nerve). Things are looking good so going to try it again (this time pushing my daughter - should be interesting. Wish me luck. If I fail again don't know what I'll do. Was really hoping to train better this year and PR.

Hey guys...we're at the bottom of the page again...I guess everyone's been busy training and enjoying the cool weather outside. (well at least I am!) So for the final head count, who's running Scotia Bank next weekend? So far Maureen, myself, and Bob are going...I was thinking of a CR get-together at the beginning/end of the race but due to the huge turnout, I don't think that's really possible... Anyways, what are you guys up to these days?

I will be there........... as u know Tim... Definitely not going for a PR. Ran today.....Burnaby Lake and up the river (87 min in total) and was coated in salt at the end.... Brought no water. Anyway, was a tough go, so I am NOT putting high expectation on myself for next Sunday. However, I think I have decided on the RVM for October rather than repeating the Okanagan Marathon. New challenge............. So let's get together as a CR group after the Scotia if there will be a few of us! Should we post under the "Race Together" thread? ------------------ Moi!

Maureen... there's a new water tap at Burnaby Lake... by the eastern bridge, across the river. It's on the South side of the bridge. Ran a decent 5K last friday, so have decided to jump into the Scotiabank half. Bob, I've met a few times... Tim, I've seen a picture of... will look the the CR crowd there.

Hi Everyone!Well I've been training for a duathlon latley... No swimming required got to like that I sure needed a long break after my 50 miler longer then I thought so it feels good to be back at it, as well as spending some time on my bike. I have loved the cooler weather, could do with out the rain though lol..... I think I am going to do the lake cowichan great walk this year instead of the RVM but good luck to all that are running it! It's a great marathon! Happy training everyone
