Blue! So what does it take to get a blue number? I'm yellow, at least. Still, yellow is 1200 - 6000something, so potentially that's 5,000 people -- still a huge race. I have trouble believing there are 5,000 people in Vancouver who can run a 40- (men) or 44- (women) minute marathon. However, I'm 1733, and I just registered yesterday, so maybe numbers 1700 - 6000odd are unused??? But that seems unlikely...

Or was I supposed to get a blue number for convincing them I could run in 40:00? They told me the yellow number was seeded.

Below 40 mins for guys, Below 44 mins for ladies. You will qualify for seeding if your time is at least in the 39s.

Yeah, I went in with records of my recent 1:28:44 half, which equates to about a 39:53. They told me they were giving me a seeded bib. If I'd realized Blue was seeded I'd have complained. Fortunately starting at the front of Yellow was almost as good, except that meant having to enter the corral a lot earlier, and some crowding during the race. Actually I was surrounded by people most of the way; I guess there were a lot of Yellow runners in the 40-minute range.

Congrats on your sub-38!

I checked my watch's running data more closely. It looks like I crossed the line at exactly 40:00.00, to the hundredth second. So I'll have to wait for the official results to see whether I actually broke 40.

And looks like you did...the results did say 40 flat.
My watch was a second off however...37:58 official

No marathons for me this year (though I would love to go back to Victoria again)...I'm not sure what I'll be doing this fall, other than H2H, as I would have raced for most of the summer. I am thinking of Vancouver next spring but I'll have to consider carefully as I will be busier later this year with school.

Btw anyone thinking of running the Team Coastal Delta 1/2M this August? I would love to go but I need a ride there & back before I can even think of signing up...

I'm planning on Portland. I ran Boston in April, and then a marathon in Eugene, OR, 8 weeks later (one week ago). Eugene was flat, but I was 3 minutes slower. I guess an 8-weeks-between program really is not the way to run your best marathon! It didn't help that I pulled a thigh muscle in the Sun Run, which I probably shouldn't have run one week after Boston.

I had fun in Eugene, but the result is now 16 weeks between Eugene and Portland, and now I need a recovery period. Kind of frustrating, because I feel fine, and I'm anxious to get my mpw back up.

I'd kind of like to do Victoria again, too -- and it is a week later, which would be good -- but I haven't run Portland, and I'll take any excuse to get back to Oregon.

I'm planning on Portland too. I did Victoria last year, so it's time for a change of scene. Not to mention a road trip.

Not keen on BIG marathons, but I've got to get to Boston (hopefully '07), so I've got to get used to the crowds.

Has anyone here done the Massey Mile in PG? What's it like? Is it worth it for a 7 min miler to enter? I've never run a mile race and am interested.

Hey BC'ers,
It's been a while since I (or anybody else) posted...I have a special request to make. I'm doing Haney to Harrison this year (H2H) and we need 2 more people (1 male and 1 female) to join our team. The race is on November 4th: http://www.bcathletics.org/H2H/

If you are interested in joining our team this year, either post here on this thread with your contacts or email me asap. My email address is timruns99@yahoo.ca. I will relay the information to the team leader/organizer and she will contact you from there.

I hope everybody's enjoying the beautiful summerlike weather this week...enjoy it while it lasts for once the cold and rains hit, it will be long before this kind of weather arrives here again.

Hey Tim!

I can give you a big maybe. Over the next couple of days I'll be working out my travel schedule for the next month; then I should know.

I did the New Hampshire Reach the Beach relay a couple of weeks ago: 210 miles. We had a 10 person team. (Normal is 12.) It was a blast!

Big hello to y'all! I am gearing up (or down?) for this Sunday in Victoria. I am extra anxious about this one, not sure why... Tim, I plan on doing the H2H again, but am, so far, part of a masters team. We need a couple more members, as well. It is a mixed team and I believe they have increased the required number of women on the team to 4, where it used to be 3. That race is the most fun I have ever had running!! Hi, Bob!! I have seen you (lurker that I am) over in the CH......

Hi to all BC Runners

Well, I just ran the James Cunningham Seawall Race yesterday, and it was actually ideal conditions for running, except for the breakers occasionally splashing the seawall path. The winds threatened to be blustery, but subsided just as the race started. The rain held off, and it only sprinkled a bit just before the awards ceremony. A great race, nice conditions overall, and as always, lots of bagels, cinnamon buns, oranges, bananas, juice, yogurt, hot coffee and tea after the race. It was a fun, friendly crowd, great volunteers(thank you) and I enjoyed myself. A friend managed a PR by taking 3 minutes off his time! I managed to knock ten seconds off my PR from several years ago, (squeeked in under 40:00 ), and I think I spotted one of the loves of my life (well, a very attractive female in an orange long-sleeve technical top, black shorts and white cap) during the draw prize and awards event. Either that or I was still hypoxic, post-race. Yes, that must have been it. Anyways, I had a blast, and I hope I see more beautiful visions in other races.

Well, this thread is getting lost in the shuffle, so I'll give it a bump. I'm thinking of running the Fall Classic, even though they've run out of my size of technical top. Does anybody think that that's too close to Seattle Marathon?

Hey Vancouverites,

Anyone know the state of the seawall? I'm not looking forward to doing today's long run on the slushy/muddy trails in Pacific Spirit Park.

Thanks!
Bob

As Bob asked earlier, does anyone know the state of the seawall? I'm running the marathon in May and would like to incorporate the seawall into some of my 30k+ runs before then... oh, and the actual marathon route utilizes it as well so it would be nice if it were open by then. I'd hate to see them re-route it down East Hastings. They could alternate water stations with meth/crack/heroin/grain alcohol stations which would make for an interesting finish.

Hi Maureen. The thread dropped pretty far down the list. Antag is out now, but I still think Dev and Don Brock are in town that weekend.

Does anyone have a good measurement for the distance around False Creek? I used the walkjogrun.net tool, but it seemed to come out long judging from times/effort.

Hi nocknee - the turkey trot, a 10k race, starts on Granville Island, goes up & over the Burrard St bridge & then down to the seawall right off the bridge, along past Science World & through the area near Cambie Bridge (where all the construction is going on right now) and back to the seawall. Don't know if this helps or not. Try gmap-pedometer.com or runningmap.com too for running routes.

Any bcers out in Fort Langley today running the 1/2 or 8k route? We sure lucked out with the weather and I managed to knock two minutes off my 1/2 time - yea! I'd recommend this event for anyone wanting to do a run early in the year and not able to get into the First Half (but there are hills

Thanks, jennsh. Unfortunately Granville Island is a runner's worst nightmare, unless it's been closed to traffic, and access to the waterfront keeps changing as per the needs of real estate developers...looks like I need a bike with an odometer.

I might be up for a meet-up. But I'm afraid I've self-regulated myself out of the CH, so I hope the details will appear here as well!

OTOH - I'll have a visitor that day. Not a runner. Ah well.

I got this reply this morning to my email to the Vancouver Park Board:

quote:
The press release referred to the forest trails. The seawall section between Lions Gate Bridge and Third Beach will remain closed for some time because there is much work to be done above, on the escarpment to make the seawall safe and of course this work can't proceed until drier weather which will allow people and equipment access to the steep slopes. Also, there is extensive structural damage to the seawall itself that will have to be addressed.

So, no timeframe, but not soon, looks like.

Note that the current Vancouver Marathon course map does not use the closed part of the seawall.

Bob
