Who's doing the First Half this Feb? I just signed up and given that registration just opened 3 days ago, it is already 81.2% full! If you want a spot in the race better sign up quick! http://www.pacificroadrunners.ca/firsthalf/

so how were the h2h runs?there is a new 1/2 in fort langley (langley runningroom sponsoring) if you didn't get into the 1st 1/2 -- same day. Anyone do khatsalano 15k this past weekend? Weather gods smiled upon us as rain stopped & held off pretty much until the rewards ceremony was over. Challenging & pretty course; was satisfied with my time given the training runs I'm getting (or not) in. Good runs to any of you doing the Fall Classic this weekend! Jenn

Our team (Party like 8 Rock Stars) came in 44th overall with a total time of 7:38. We had a blast! Saw many familiar faces there...Ernest (Andele) was volunteering there...he also ran it as part of another team.

I did manage to get into the "First Half", and I am glad because I had a horrible run last year in that race and I need to conquer it this time. H 2 H was SO MUCH FUN!!! I have never done a relay race before. The race was incredibly well organized and, like Tim said, I kept seeing people I knew........all day long. Definiteley plan to do that annually!! Congrats on Khatsalano, Jenn, I have heard it's a tough one.

Maybe because we BCers spend so much time out there running and enjoying the beautiful scenery that we have little time for CR... Thanks and have fun with the swim tomorrow...I won't be there...just don't chill out too much eh? See you in February.[This message has been edited by TimRuns (edited Jan-01-2006).]

I live... plenty of turkey and chocolate to work off... One of my daughters was at the Polar Bear dip today. I was cross-town doing one of those "resolution" runs. It was the first race I had to stop at a traffic light... LOL Upcoming races for me are the Chilly Chase 10k, Icebreaker 8k, and First Half Half. Perhaps may run into you at one of these, Maureen. So far, the only CRs I've met Tim and Bob (of those that monitor this thread anyway).

I'm still here. Just started training for Boston a few weeks ago (and already on my second cold since then!) - I'm running it again this year. Hoping it will be cooler this time! Anyone else going? Maureen?I'd probably do the Chilly Chase or the Steveston Icebreaker, but I'll be in Boston then. Bob

Good luck with Boston, Bob...so I guess you're done school? First Half's my first race of the year...also signed up for the Sun Run in April...I'm following the Timex series for most of the spring and summer.

Okay so I figured it out...I think there was a server burp I am new to this whole running idea...I am starting tomorrow on CRs The Couch-to-5K Running Plan, I am so excited about this new venture! Is there anyone else in the lower mainland scared of what a half half is, let alone running one? Seriously, I am curious about how many runners are out there. I know you are there, I've seen you in the beautiful paths in my neighbourhood and I can't wait to join you, which I will start tomorrow. Where are you running? ~Jelly~ [This message has been edited by CDNJellyBean (edited Jan-26-2006).]

We are a relatively quiet group...I'm from the Tri-city region and currently do most of my training runs in the Port Moody, Coquitlam, and PoCo area (sometimes as far as Anmore and Belcarra). I used to run alot in Vancouver & Pacific Spirit Park when I was living out at UBC but now having graduated recently, I'm back in Coquitlam again.

Just wanted to wish everyone racing this weekend in either the 1st Half or the Historic Half (or any other race) good luck! I'm doing the Historic Half in Fort Langley; looking forward to it . . . sounds like the weather is going to be on the cool side but no rain. Have fun!Jenn

I managed to find someone who couldn't run the First Half and will give me their registration, so I'm in!I would like to finally break 1:30 (PR is 1:30:06!), and this seems like a fast course. And I've been doing more miles lately, training for Boston (Pfitzinger 70 this time). But I'm just beginning to get to the speedwork in the program, and it's been a while since I've raced, so I'm not sure whether I can hold a 1:30 pace... I'll probably have to go for it anyway, though. I botched a marathon pace run on Monday. This will be longer, and faster... but hopefully without that insane wind we had on Monday. Good luck all! Bob

I'm doing the First 1/2 this weekend. Training was going well until I got injured last week and had to take some time off...I'm getting nervous as I'm still struggling to heal up... As for a goal time (and given that my training's been crappy lately) Ill be happy with anything under 1:25.

Wow - no activity here for two month! So, BUMP!How's everyone doing? I didn't quite meet my goal in the First Half - another 1:30:xx. But 3 weeks later I ran a half in 1:28:44 in Boston. And I'm back in Boston now for the marathon. Are there any other BCers coming? Unfortunately after the half in Boston last month I wound up with achilles tendonitis - probably due to the 18 miler I ran the next day. So I've had to curtail my training, and I'm not expecting a top performance in the marathon. The weather looks to be good this year, too - just my luck! At least I plan to avoid the meltdown I had here last year. Bob

Congrats on the 1/2 PR Bob! Breaking 1:30 is a big milestone for many. I hope your injury's healed up by now...good luck at Boston! I am training for the Sun Run on the 23rd. Things are turning out for the better for me as well... I missed out on 2-3 weeks of training earlier in February due to injury and recovery from the 1/2 marathon-did a 1:26 for that one- went out too fast and suffered in the last 4 miles or so. For the past 6 weeks, training's been very consistent. I did a 5k last Saturday in 18:22 (18:28 gun), a personal best for me despite having not tapered enough for the race. More surprisingly (and shockingly) I did a 10k goal pace workout today (2X 2.33 miles @ 10k race pace w/ 4-5 min recv.) and I was able to hold a 5:50ish pace for both sets! Each set was around 13 1/2 mins or so ...If this breakthrough is for real, I may be seeing a big PR for the Sun Run next weekend.

Thanks, Tim. Good luck in the Sun Run. I was originally planning on running it as well, even though it's just a week after Boston, but I think realistically I had better be resting my Achilles then.Just two days to go...

Bob good luck on Monday! I'm hoping TSN or OLN will show the race. Tim good luck next Sunday; I'm doing the Sun Run too but with my hit & miss training over past several months am just going to enjoy the experience of running with 40 odd thousand others! Hopefully, the weather will be milder. Jenn

Well, I am doing the Sun Run, even though the number one reason for NOT entering races for many years was the crowds!! Does it get more crowded?? Anyone else in?------------------ Moi!

I signed up at the last minute this afternoon. Maybe not so smart six days after Boston, or coming off an Achilles injury, but I feel pretty good.Bob

Yup...I qualified for seeding though so I'll be near front with the rest of the blue numbers. No need to worry too much about the crowds...
