Can anyone recommend a good foot/running injury doctor in the Eugene area? I did something bad to my foot in a recent race. I went to see a general doctor and got x-rayed (no fractured showed up) and they basically educated-guessed it as a strained or torn ligament. It's been 5 days now and even though it hardly ever hurts now, now I'm getting once-a-day episodes where I can't physically walk/hobble at all, on it. I basically want someone competent to look at it. FYI, the pain is on the outer edge of my foot, just forward of the ball of my foot.

I use Dr. Greg Skaggs (GP) at PeaceHealth downtown. He works with our athletes here at UO Athletics as well. He's relatively young and athletics oriented.Dr. Jackie Sotelo, Podiatrist (Family Foot Clinic) advertises on the radio, but I don't know her reputation. Dr. Shapiro is the Orthopedic Surgeon who did my achilles re-attachment. He did a great job on my ankle. Good luck, I hope you get it resolved quickly. What race were you at? I ran the Bohemia 1/2 last weekend and really enjoyed it. Not a lot of amenities, but I really enjoyed the course and I liked the small town atmosphere.

My doctor is Dr. Stan James at Orthopedic Healthcare Northwest. He is the best in the country, period. He has worked on almost every elite runner, and did Joan Benoit's famous knee surgery before she won the Olympic Trials marathon. It might be hard to get in to see Stan (I think he is semi-retired) but the whole group there is quite good.------------------ About Me

Ran the Pints To Pasta 10K on Sunday as a tune-up race for the Portland marathon. It's a net downhill course, and I was hoping to go under 42:00. I started out pretty far back to avoid going out too fast, and ended up going out too slow (most of the downhill was in the first mile, so it should have been my fastest). First 3 miles went by more or less as planned (6:53, 6:56, 6:56) and I realized I needed to start working harder if I wanted to make my goal. After crossing the Steel Bridge I started pushing the pace and passing some runners, but my splits didn't get much faster. Next 3 miles were 6:53, 6:24, 7:18 - pretty sure that mile marker at 5 miles was in the wrong place, my forerunner measured those miles as .94/1.07 (6:50 avg) - and the final split was 1:21 for a 42:41 finish. Happy with the time even though I didn't meet my goal - got a 6 minute PR out of it, ran negative splits, and didn't get passed by anyone. Nice race, easy course, will definitely run this one again.

Hey everyone,I'm new. I am doing C25K, it's going pretty well so far. I live in southeast Portland, moved here last summer. I really like this city, it is just so beautiful! I have a question for other Portlanders: anyone know a good podiatrist? Preferably downtown or close-in east side. [I also posted this in the Med Tent but haven't gotten any replies yet...] I stepped on a belt buckle a couple months ago, it went into the bottom of my foot and now there is a painful persistent callus on the spot [and it's right on the ball of my foot, near my 4th toe]. I've tried getting rid of it with pumice stones and salicylic acid callus removers, but it keeps coming back. And now the top of my foot hurts too, I believe the pain from the callus has changed how I walk and that is stressing the top of my foot. So I think I need a professional to remove it... Anyhow, I hope to be joining you all in a 5K soon! I did the Bridge Pedal this year and it was pretty fun (although very crowded on some of the bridges!), I just love biking around this city.

Hi atomic83, welcome to Portland. I've never had the need for a podiatrist, but Portland CitySearch does rank doctors: http://portland.citysearch.com/search?x=27&y=8&init_search=1&context=generic&miles=50&pre_geo_id2=&request_market_only=&query=podiatrists&cslink=cs_topbar_search&pre_csz=&pre_geo_id1=&store_where_for_comparison=Portland,%20OR&hotelAttraction=&started =1Have you figured out what 5K you're going to run yet? Hopefully your foot will let run. Good luck! Lab duck

Hi all,Just back (this morning on the red eye) from Portland after a 10 day vacation. Man oh man, is it beautiful, so much so that I'm planning on moving there in about 5 months time. Ran the Bank to Bay 10K in Tacoma, WA on 11th (I think) and the Octoberfest 10k in Mount Angel, OR on 17th. Placed first in my age group which was fun. Later.

I saw the doctor yesterday, and now I'm thinking it is very likely I will race Portland. I just don't see how I can skip it, or at least try it and see how it goes. I don't want to think about that option, but Portland is one of the easier marathons to drop out of it things go really bad in the first 11-12 miles.I have no idea what time to shoot for anymore, so that is going to make it really hard to pace this one. ------------------ About Me

Glad you're feeling well enough to even be planning on running at this point! Injury is always a bummer...and it's so darn hard to resist the urge to run and rest long enough. Hopefully we'll see you there Sunday!

Hey Jaguar, I moved to central Oregon from Oklahoma back in 1987. You will love Oregon. I don't miss the tornadoes a bit. ). I have just started getting fit and the C25K. I couldn't believe how out of shape I had gotten. There is a lot to see here, I haven't seen all of it yet but I will. Welcome.

Yes, I was excited to hear that Eugene won the bid! I'm going to make a point to be there either as a spectator or a volunteer. Anyone know who to contact regarding volunteering? I know it's quite a ways off but it pays to think early!

Sarah (or anyone else interested) - If you want to be a volunteer for the Olympic Trials, the first thing to do is join the Oregon Track Club. Start volunteering for meets now, and see about getting certified as an official. My guess is they will have tons of people who want to help for the trials, so having some experience and showing you are dedicated will help you not only get a volunteer slot, but also help you do a good job.------------------ About Me

megapronator, I took your advice & signed up with OTC. Put me in, coach, I'm ready to officiate!Anyone in the Eugene area doing the Duck Dash 5K? I chose it for its terrible graphics. You can't help but feel sorry for a race with graphics that bad.

I'm thinking about it, especially since it's less than 1/2 mile from my house. So you don't like the uppercuts, or is it the flying wig? Oh, and Econo, we are down to one degree of separation thanks to Joel in our video department. I think we're going to cross paths someday. D'oh! Don't blow my cover, duckgeek!Bad graphics*; ah, where to start: The uppercut is pretty strange, but maybe he's pictured in an Olympics track race here. The placement of the left foot (toe pointed toward the left!) is just painful, but the clincher is the meth-addict paranoia look that says "take me to detox." *See www.goodrace.com and click on the Duck Dash brochure for details.

I'm doing the Duck Dash. I actually won it last year, so that gives me some extra incentive to run it again. I'm not in nearly as good of shape this year (probably 30 seconds a mile slower) but it is a fun race. The number of turns in amazing. It winds through campus on sidewalks and path between the buildings. It gets a pretty good turnout as well.I think that graphic is modeled after me running. The pained look and the legs going off in the wrong direction are definitely me. They just added the wig since it is sponsored by the law school! ------------------ About Me

So, who ended up doing the Duck Dash? I did it and ran awful. If I had been just 1 second slower, it would have been my slowest 5K in 7 years. Conditions weren't great for going fast, but still that was a pretty depressing result...------------------ About Me
