Hi guys!
I'm back in town after the holidays and ready to get back to a normal schedule (running and otherwise.)

Bob - Congrats on the 10 miles! Back to the double digits! No strength training for me even though I know it's something I should do.

Brook Trout - You are right. Chicago would be really expensive. Not sure if I will be able to afford that or not.
(Would be fun though and fast!)

Bob - I am running Umstead, but I haven't started "training." I doubt I will be able to follow a training plan for it, but I hope to get in some long runs in Umstead.

Bonesheal - I ran several marathons close together this year. 2, 3, 4, and 5 weeks apart. Seemed to be okay for me. I wasn't "racing" them though.

JDF - Sorry your foot is hurt! Ouch! Let us know what the doc says this week!

Bob and JDF - You guys are funny about the award! I am just a regular girl who likes to run! Thanks though.

JDF, heal fast! It's got to be aggravating not to be able to run. Did the chip cause your injury?

Bob--it was actually a 13-mile MP run with 2 mile warmup and cooldown. I'm doing it out of Daniels' marathon plan, although I'm going to back up since I was at 10 weeks out (from Umstead) and now I'm at around 17 weeks out, so I'm moving back from phase 3 to phase 1. I guess I'll call what I've done "basebuilding."

Bonesheal,

Yes I think the Chip caused the injury. The doctor(Who is an avid runner himself. I see him at all of the races) thinks that the chip couldn’t have caused that much damage. It was a hard chip and I tied it way to tight. It is kind of ironic that an injury like this is what got me. I mean I had run almost 30 races last year with the chip like that. Now I know why everyone lets the chip just dangle on the end of a shoe lace instead of securing it to their foot. The pain is not too bad. However, I can tell that my foot is not right and I don’t want to injure it anymore. I still have hopes of doing another spring marathon. I am signed up for Umstead. That is a long shot now though.

Bit,

The fact that you ran so many marathons with consistently good times is what is so impressive. Wow, if you weren’t racing your marathons then I would really like to see what you could do when you really tried.

JDF,

I'm not sure how to race a marathon.

You know how when you race a shorter distance, you feel like you are running hard the whole time? I don't know if that is possible with a marathon?

I run comfortably for most of a marathon. When whatever pace gets hard, I tend to slow down. I haven't figured out how to push through that.
I don't feel like I am "racing."

Not sure if that's a good explaination or not!

Yea that is a great explanation. I just chock it up to you being super human! Anyway, great “cruising” this season. Your times definitely impressed me.

I just got back from the foot doctor. He said that I actually had two injuries. The shooting pain between my big toe and the toe next to it is caused by having the chip tied to tightly to the top of my foot. That basically pinched a nerve and will heal with some time. He confirmed the second injury was that I broke my third metatarsal in the marathon. It was a clean break all the way through it. In the X-Ray you could actually see where one half of the bone had shifted over from the other half. Anyway, he said that this type of fracture usually takes between 8-10 weeks to heal. I am 4 weeks into the healing so it will probably be early February before I am cleared to run again. At least there are not many races in January and February. Although, the lack of training for two months is going to kill me. Oh well, nothing I can do now. The doctor said that these types of fractures can occur at any time. He said my height(ie: longer bones) could make me more susceptible but it definitely happens to a lot of people who run. The Anyway, good luck to everyone who is still healthy enough to run. I will catch back up with you guys when I am cleared to run again.

The other Raleigh thread had just too many posts so I decided to start a new 2007 thread. The page loads much faster after a post with the new thread. The new thread is under this link.

Has anyone ran Falls Dam after 5:30 when the gates close? Is it OK to run there up until sunset, or because being it managed by USACE, we are not allowed.
