The Moderator Strikes Back...

So. Had a great run today. Slow as all heck, coughing due to this cold, sweating to beat the band. Felt great in other words.

Are we going to go through with this July 19th Cross-Calgary thing?

----
Do you mean I'm going to have to train?

I'm in as long as it's just not me and Grizz running it alone....

I may as well keep going, training for my second first half on June 7, then a 10k.. what's another run 13 days later?

Count me in too. I'll see if I can run for 2 teams like Grizz suggested.

8k run today. Really nice run along the river. Glad to see that summer is around the corner. Still having some problems...but I'm working on them.

Me too...I'm hoping that mileage is back up by then!

I get to run THREE runs this week....5km each! Yahoo!

Now...what to do with the extra pounds?? Seems that I kept up my pre-injury eating well after my injury. Oooooops.

Ask Mr. Goldens... That way I won't feel so bad about handicapping the team.

3 runs? Boy you're good!

Grizzly thanks for taking the leap and creating Alberta2

Still on the fence, one at some point I do need to go back to work, and two maybe the 1/2 marathon is good enough and the chance to see as many folks as possible for those 10 days will work.

I'll take any of stages 2, 3, or 4 as I know these routes well and am okay with running them.

Given my current state of running readiness I think you might want to give me the shortest of the lot.

I'm using this as a motivation to continue on to my (2) races of the year - the Canmore and Harvest half marathons.

----
That's optimistic.

What are the distances again? I'm still only running 11 - 11:30 pace. I'd be willing to do around 10k's.

I'm sure I could convince my hubby to run too, a shorter leg though. If we need another runner.

Don't you just love this weather? I'm in heaven.

Same with me Grizz....Stages 2, 3, and 4 are the ones I know fairly well (up to the last part of stage 4)...I've never run in the other two areas at all. As for distance, I'm sure my mileage will have crept up by then and I should be able to handle the distances....albeit...slow!!

So...I guess my preference would be one of those stages, but of course, we need to take into account which one torque will be running for his 'other' team.

(taken from the website)
Stage 1 - 15.2 km
Stage 2 - 9.6 km
Stage 3 - 6.8 km (hill at the end)
Stage 4 - 13.7 km
Stage 5 - 12.9 km

I'll ask Mr. Goldens, but if Michelle's DH would like to run, I know mine will be quite content to cheer us on along the route on his bike.

And I'm not sure about Torquemada, my suggestion was that he run the first leg for both our team and Transit. Not sure that that can happen. If we can't, or if we have too many interested parties, maybe we stiff the guy.

----
In the nicest possible way, of course.

Leg one would be fine. I was going to suggest that too. I may have to work that day so it would fit nicely.

This is the first year our Transit team wasn't drawn for the K100.....I've had some other offers from other teams but I may just focus on the X Calgary.

Hi Michelle!! I turn up every now and then, kinda like a bad penny! Doing really well....VERY busy in grad school but whooping butt and loving every minute of it!!! Health is finally turning around and I am just now starting to get back on the road. Man, do I have some ground to make up....it's probably been the better part of a year since I've been able to run consistently.

How are you doing??

Ok....here it is.....

www.crosscalgary.com

I've made arrangements with the Transit Team to run the first Ieg. I've also sent an e-mail to the directors to see if running for two teams on the same leg is kosher.

So, let's see....we have

Grizz, Michelle, Goldens and Golden's hubbie, and myself. It looks as if we will be paying for "On-Time" registration at 40.00 dollars a runner.....

To enter, simply download an entry form and deliver it to the Tech Shop in Calgary. EARLY ENTRY (prior to May 1) fees are $60 for ultra runners and $35 per relay runner. ON-TIME entry fees are $65 for ultra runners and $40 for each relay runner (May 1 - July 5). LATE ENTRY fees are $70 for ultra runners and $50 per relay runner, and late entrants are no guaranteed a shirt (don't let this happen to you). Relay teams must submit their entry in full including a completed form for each team member. Entry fees are non-refundable. NO race day entries or post-dated cheques.

So, do you guys feel confident enough to register now? Or do you want to wait to see how the Alberta Injured Runners are fairing closer to race time?

I vote we register on July 4th.

Ran a near 10k in Confederation Park today. Won't tell you how slow I was.

But I'll be ready to do something half decent in July. I'm in.

Hope everyone had an enjoyable long weekend. I worked, of course, but managed to squeeze a couple of runs in.

Sunday's run was brutal....I did an extremely hard workout at the gym on Saturday night and I felt like a bag of wet cement on the pathway. Today's run was a little better though. Still a little sore but a much better run. It was mayhem on the pathway around the market though.

Hope you are doing well Grizz...is this toe thing hereditary? How's Winnie doing?

Well, I've targeted June 9th as 'T' day.....(Start of training, day)

I'm using a Pfitzinger 18 week schedule this time around....lets see how this one works.

Doing okay Torque.

I'm running (estimated) between 10:30 and 11:00 miles. Slow for me.

But I'm running time not distance. Deciding to go out for weekday runs of about 40 minutes and have my long run be between 80-90 minutes on the weekend, being 1/3 of my total time for the week.

Feels better to me than focussing on distance, and I'm able to enjoy the runs... for now.

In a few weeks I'll start thinking harder about getting the "miles" in.

Winnie... well, we'll know the path report today. It ain't healing.

----
Did you miss not running Red Deer?

Back after a nice long weekend...Banff for two days of hiking and relaxing with the dogs and then yesterday we took a hot air balloon ride out of north Glenmore park. Very cool!
So...haven't been online much this weekend.

So glad to hear that everyone has been getting out running. With the hiking on the weekend, I opted not to run as I knew the hills were going to be stretching those calves enough without adding a run or two to the mix...so will head out for one today and see how things feel.

torque - congrats on setting the 'goal' training date. I'm assuming this is with Kelowna as the ultimate goal.

Grizz - I sure hope that the Winnie's results provide only good news...please keep us posted.

Sounds like a wise plan, and you're running about the same as me right now..... I'm still not enjoying them because all I can think about is how much I can't do yet....any ideas on how to break through that mental barrier? I am going to try the time thing since I do focus more on distance and perhaps that's why this is so frustrating. I was running close to 40mpw last year when I first got benched and have never gotten close to it since. I really don't want to give this up but I am tired of tormenting myself over how much I suck at it anymore.

Help.....

Great run on the pathway today.....glorious and sunny. First time I pulled out the singlet this year. Nice pace with no sign of pain....oh joy....oh bliss.....could I finally be getting better?

Goldens....did you say that DH ran a marathon recently? Where did he run it and how was his time? A friend of mine just ran the Penticton marathon this last Sunday....He did pretty good considering the hills.

The run was advertized as flat with a few character building hills throughout. I have no character. After running up the first hill I ran/walked the rest. I live by the law that gravity works and I have a whole lot of body that gravity can work on. Everybody that passed me on the way up I passed on the way down.
I was happy with my time 2:06, 107 out of 233. I am the midpack runner. It was bloody cold that day as well, however the race was well run with plenty of water stations, some with live music. The worst part was running by a sewage treatment plant, the best the guy playing the sax at one of the water stations. Well worth the trip down from Yellowknife.

Well, got the word that Winnie has squamous cell carcinoma and that her toe will have to be amputated. That is... if it hasn't spread yet. We'll do some more tests tomorrow.

Either way she's going to the groomer on Friday to be loved up and pampered because she loves it and ... she stinks. Then, if it's not worth it to amputate we're going to go for a walk on Nose Hill on Saturday one last time.

But, chances are that it hasn't spread yet and we'll have a couple more years with her.

At any rate it's a bit of a bummer. Torque, you may poke dogs in the eye, but I have a habit of doing worse.

Keep up the training gang!
