Anyone else doing PACIFIC SPIRIT RUN 10km on Sun. ?

I know it's really strange! I know of some regular BC coolrunners (mudrunner, jennsh, cassi, ladysmithrunner, Talula4) but it seems that they havent noticed this thread (or ignoring it?)

Hi all,

I'm coming to Vancouver this Sunday for 12 days. I will be staying at the Westin Grand which I guess is near Yaletown. They have a fitness center but I'd prefer to get outside for most of my runs. Any suggestions on good places to run each morning?

Also, anybody up for something in the 14-16 mile range on Sunday the 18th?

I'll be in training every weekday but I have the weekend free to explore. I'm really excited to be going on this trip!

Marty

ladysmithrunner, I won't be anywhere close to a full by Oct. but do plan on doing their 8K, hopefully 1/2 next year....maybe we can all get together at Pagliaci for pasta the day before

Marty, enjoy your stay in Vancouver....it's a beautiful city!

I'm moving to Victoria on Tuesday, so shortly I will also be a BC runner!

(a little exited)

I'm a new runner...just finished c25k a few weeks ago. Once I arrive in Vic, I want to sign up for my first 5k to help me stay motivated. Anyone know of any 5k races in May or June?

How about nice places to run in Vic?

Cheers,
Stephanie

I dont know of any races in Victoria but I know there's a 5k race/funrun on June 1st at Vancouver's Science World. There's a free T-shirt and free admission to Science World for everyone who's registered to run. I can't remember what the registration costs are but you can go free if you donate pledges. Just too bad I can't go though-- I'm still recuperating from a recent stress fracture. I feel so jealous to see people running around injury-free in such nice weather!

There's 2 good sites that list events in our area.
www.bcathletics.org/main/eventcal_index.htm
www.raceheadquarters.com

I'm doing the 5km Sci.World fun run,
www.sciencefairs.bc.ca/funrun2003/index.htm

I've only been running for 3 months, but I'm aiming for a half-marathon by next year.

TimRuns: Sorry to hear about your injury. I also got shin splints 2 weeks before Sun Run, but I carefully nursed it back and ran it in 54:21, my first running event ever.
Hey since you're sidelined, it gives me time to catch up, hahaha. Just kidding.

Alex

Wow Stephanie....that is sooo cool another C25Ker in Victoria
Tons of nice places to run. I run on a trail in Beacon Hill Park. I have problems running on concrete, so I have to pick my routes carefully to avoid them. If you are up to running early in the morning we could do Sat. runs together.

After travelling to Vancouver for an 8K, I've decided that unless I get to 1/2 marathon standards, I am not going to travel....hmm, maybe if it was a relay of a group of friends I might consider it.
However, there is a fun 3k run on June 7th called the Oak Bay Mad Hatter, and they encourage costumes. I'd be willing to do this only if I knew others who'd come with me!!!
Since I am hoping to do the Bay To Beakers next year, this costumed run would be a good trial run.

Costumes are optional - in fact clothing is optional at B2B.

I've been outa town lately, so that's my excuse for not posting earlier. I'm a North Shore trail runner, so if it's mud that you want...

hehe...as liberating running naked would be...but amongst 1000's of other runners might feel a bit more frightfull.

How was Mrs. Mud's pacific spirit run?
Alex did you run this one too?

Pacific Spirit Run was fun ! Trail running has awesome scenery. Too bad my right ankle is prone to twisting. So I'll do trail running just once a year.

Now I have two 10k runs under my belt.
Next one's gonna be the Sandcastle City Classic in White Rock on June 8.

Mrs Mud didn't do it. I'd been out of town all week & she was much more interested in going for a nice lunch somewhere. So we did that instead (although I did go with the Knee Knacker training group earlier in the morning).

Speaking of Knee Knacker, is anyone doing the 1/2 Knacker on June 1?
Is anyone volunteering for the full race on July 12?

How was your 8k Cedre?

ahem, well....*nervous laugh*
The race was a neat experience. The free stuff were really good, and if you want a good laugh you can read the full report on the C25K Grad thread.
But as I said I am really slow!! So the 8K took me a while (57:29), but I'm happy, my goal was under one hour, so I just made it.
Now I can't wait to do more races to improve my PR.

Inspiration for y'all...

That was taken on Sunday during the Knee Knacker training run. I'm the guy at the back doing the 1 Legged Chicken Dance.

Here's the rest of the photos.

Way to go Cedre! & no, that report was not too long.

I think I smacked into a tree shortly before the picture was taken & was still woozy - that or the vodka in my water bottle was kicking in (note that it is NOT a "Hello Kitty" bottle).

Hello Kitty bottle?????

That is a really neat picture mud...and I do believe it must have been the vocka kickin' in as you have a semi "Gordon Campbell mug shot" grin on your face. Hmm...are you sure you aren't sporting a martini or two in that water bottle?

Hey all, anyone looking (oops it's thundering out!) for a nice hilly 10k - Vistas in Maple Ridge on the 25th. Lots of food & draw prizes. I'm running it for the 3rd year.

Yes mudr I've signed up for the 1/2 Knacker (she says with some trepidation --- longest trail run I've attempted) on June 1. Have to get back in the swing of things; ran the farthest this morning (8k) since the race on May 4. Went for a long (7 hrs) hike on Monday (one of the hikes from Buntzen Lake on the east side - 1100 m total elevation gain with the 1st 900 m in the first hour); quads & calves were just a wee bit tight after that. I hope that counts as crosstraining!

Am off to Northern Saskatchewan (with running gear packed) tomorrow hoping to squeeze a couple of runs in.

Have a good long weekend -- hope weather co-operates!

Jenn
