Sad to hear that one of my favorite political commentator and law expert Barabara Olson was one of the passengers who crashed at the Pentagon. It was reported that she was able to make a cell ph. call to her husband (a Bush appointee, General Solicitor) informing him of the hijacking of her plane just before crashing down.

I'm going to miss her presence in the political arena. My heart goes out to her loved ones.

My husband used to take United Flight 93 from Newark to San Francisco every week on business, until this year. He would have been on that plane All I can say is THANK GOD he wasn't.

Our building in Central Jersey was evacuated about 11am but it was just a precautionary measure.

I know several people who work in or around the WTC's and I'm just hanging out waiting for word.

God Bless all who this terrible event has affected.

A whole day has gone by and I still don't know what to think. I am glad to hear that all Kicksters who may have been involved are accounted for, though.

Today has really changed me. To think that this happened in our own country is frightening, and the fury to which it was carried out is incredible to think of. I mean, it's one thing to blow up restaurants, dance clubs, etc. (not that I condone that) but it's another to level 110-story buildings. It's just inconceivable to me that anyone would posess that much hate for anything that they would be willing to do something like that.

My heart goes out to all the victims and their families, but especially NY's finest and bravest. A lot of people unselfishly gave their lives today, and all of them should be remembered forever as heroes.

I think one moment that touched me the most was an image I saw on TV. Amongst all the rubble, all the smoke, and all the dust, an American flag was flapping in the breeze. It made me think of the words to our National Anthem, and how they really described what happened today. Through everything that happened, our flag was still there. To me it just symbolized the fact that you can bend us, but you can never break us. Our country is great for a reason -- people come together in situations like this and we always rise again. This situation is no different. Seeing how the people of this nation have responded has really made me proud of my country and proud of what it truly stands for.

So pray for peace, pray for strength, and pray for the souls of the departed. May perpetual light shine on them, and may their souls rest in peace. Amen.

My MIL and FIL live in Queens, NY, as do my two sisters in law. My father in law, in his eighties, very willful & rather frail, (bad combo), often goes into Manhattan on his own, and it was a slight concern of ours that he could have been stuck in Manhattan. He wasn't.
One sister in law works in Midtown and her husband works a block or two from the WTC. He saw the two planes hit the buildings, people jumping from the windows and the collapse of the two towers. The impact of the building falling knocked him off his feet.
One brother in law and his wife live and work in Midtown. Thank goodness they and their families in NYC are OK.

Sue, I would not recognise you if you walked in my house, but I thought of you on and off today. I'm glad to hear that you are okay. My thoughts and prayers are with you and all effected by this horrific event.

thoner, what building are you in in the city? Is there plans to reopen tomorrow?

Does anyone know anything about the American pilots? Names?

wow, what a day. all airports shut down, pro baseball games cancelled, popular tourist attractions shut down and much more.
on a creepy note, my dad was was on a flight this morning set to fly from Logan to Chicago around the same time the attacks started. (same airline too) they called the plane back when it was on the runway, but its creepy to think that he was most likely checking in and walking through the terminal amoung terrorists!

Manhattan will be closed to civilians below 14th Street, and the financial markets are closed, as are schools. They need to clean up the mess - friends who did get to the office today were wearing wet gym towels so they could breathe - and keep the roads open for emergency vehicles. God willing, there will be more victims found who can be rescued.

They have more volunteers than they need, and blood donors are turning out in drives. Please, any type Os, we are in short supply.

A morgue was set up in our new ball park, 2 blocks from me.

Mike is off at the HS down the street doing communications work for the emergency shelter that was set up. A lot of people have been stranded away from home.

There is no traffic permitted into Manhattan right now. The tunnels and bridges going in are closed - not that you'd get me in a tunnel tonight.

The police are being deployed to Arab neighborhoods to prevent any of our residents from suffering backlash.

There has been absolutely no looting, and people are all being calm and cooperative.

Hey, we're New Yorkers, and first, Americans. And I am very proud of my city and my country today.

From what I have seen, NY has handled itself remarkably well. In that respect, I can only hope that those responsible are a bit disappointed in that their plan failed to incite riots and unrest.

I'm scared and still in shock. I didn't sleep a wink last night, tossed and turned all night, and woke up still feeling awful. Something tells me this horrible tragedy won't end and it'll happen to America again which really scares me. I feel so sorry for all the victims in the building, the planes, the firemen, all of them. It's so sad and heartbreaking. I pray that airport and plane security will be heightened more than ever now so travelers can travel safely. All this terror is truly frightening and I'm still having panic and anxiety attacks today.

I'm wondering how much life will change. Will all this heightened state of security go away after a while, or is it here to stay?

Hi from vacation in Spain, we were shocked to see the news and our prayers go out to everyone affected. I thought of you Sue and am glad that you and your loved ones are okay.
We were sight seeing and felt sick when the news came on in a taverna. Everyone was glued to the TV. We left for our hotel because it was all too much...someone in the Metro station was clapping when it came on the monitors. I was on the other side of the tracks...
Again bless you

I hate to think that it *has* to be here to stay, but I don't know that I want it to go away either. If things don't change I will never feel safe getting on a plan again or going in a government building.

It totally amazes me that these terrorists think that they will bring us (America)down by doing these things to us. McVey thought that by blowing up the building in Oklahoma City he would see people rally behind him and against our government. Instead he saw America come together in unity and become stronger. These terrorists in Washington, D.C. and in New York thought they could bring us down and once again America is coming together and becoming stronger once again. I am really proud to be an American as I see not only New York come together but others from all around the nation going to New York and helping and also giving blood.
Our blood bank here in Chico, CA a small town had a 4 hour wait to give blood. Everywhere we are pulling together as a nation and that is not what the terrorists wanted. Maybe they will learn that all of their goals will not be accomplished here.

I'm also praying for the different communities of people that are from the Middle East countries that live here in the U.S. as they are now getting death threats from very ignorant and stupid people. I pray for their safety.

The guy on the plane that crashed in Pennsylvania that called his wife and told her they were going to try and overpower the hijackers was from San Ramon here in California. This story is like so many that are happening all over America in that his wife is left with 5 year-old twins and a 3-year old. I can't even imagine how people get through times like this. I don't even know anyone personally who works and lives in New York but my heart aches for all those who lost loved ones and for our whole country. This has affected a lot of people.

Even here, my daughter's friend's step mom was flying from East Coast to Sacramento and was diverted to Canada. She called home and told everyone she was fine just stranded and didn't know when she would be home.

It has definitely affected a lot of people.

I was in our cafeteria at lunchtime watching for news updates and the latest, in case anyone has not heard, is that they are holding some people, not yet named as suspects per se, in a hotel in Boston and one in S. Florida somewhere. They also impounded a car, I think that was in Boston, that contained documents written in Arabic that they think may contain details.

The saddest thing of all, made me cry right there, they listed the names of the passengers on two of the four planes that crashed.....there was a 2-year old and a 4-year old on the one plane.
