They are reporting that this is worst loss of life than Dec 7th. That would definitely make it an act of war! The problem we have is that that act of war was not from a nation but from a group of terrorists. It's hard to fight against that.

Most of LA is closed. Airports, parks, ect.
Three of the four airplanes were heading to LA.
Just heard shopping centers are shut down,as well as the fair.
I have heard (ABC) that burn victims are being taken as far away as Canadia-to the hospitals there.

They just reported that the sickos behind this act of terror chose the planes headed for LA because they knew they would be fully fueled for maximum impact. They also think the one that crashed in rural pa was headed for the whitehouse.

Calikay, I haven't heard that - I HAVE heard that Bellevue and St Vincent's, the two big downtown hospitals, have several hundred.

I don't think the problem is going to be survivors.

There will ultimately be as many heroes as victims before the rubble is cleared. Ironic as it may sound, the pilot of this particular plane just may be one of the biggest heroes of them all.

I have to say that I am amazed at how caring these midwesterners are. With only one exception, everyone has been genuinely concerned, shocked, eager for information, praying for the victims, etc. And these are folks who have let me know in the past that they don't care one whit about New York.

We are all in this one together. We are truly one people.

I live in Seattle and just yesterday I was thinking about how an Islamic terrorist with a bomb intended for the Millenial celebration here in 2000 was caught almost two years ago, and how "quiet" things had been since then. I guess now we know why.

Our hearts go out to those dierectly affected, and though our society may never be the same after this point, I think we have the strength to persevere. As long as we stand for the right of all people to live free and with compassion, and do not give in to hatred, we will prevail.

The skies above our "Jet City" are quiet today. Very sobering and sad.

Tina - I'm here in the midwest and we are just as stunned as the rest of the country. I can't seem to stop crying today. Things are even shutting down here, even the malls. MCI was shut down and Megawill was sent home from work. Don't think there is a fear that anything is going to happen here but there is no "buisness as usual". My brother in law's twin works in the World Finacial Center(?) and his wife's train goes under the WTC. By some luck of chance, they both had meetings out of the city this am. Thank God. This is insane.

Tina,
You are right - I am always the first person to say how much I despise NY and New Yorkers but I take it all back today. Someone has declared war on America and we are all one.

A friend of mine from college has a small CPA office in WTC and I just spoke with him at his home in a NY suburb. He happended to be out auditing a bank in the Bronx and his office was empty thank God.

I just returned from watching some of the newscast and was thinking the very same thing here in toronto. Not a sound above.

What happened today will change the approach the entire world takes to fighting terrorism.

Judging from the TV the first plane hit about 10 floors from the top and the second about 30 from the top. I still can't believe I was just up there.

Anyone hear anymore news about the SF bound plane that went down in Penn. I haven't heard a back up to the initial report that it had been shot down by the air force.

I did hear a passenger made a 911 call from the bathroom.

dnagirl - I just caught some of ABC television news in our cafeteria. They have a computer model showing where on the buildings the planes hit. I haven't seen anything on the web specifying the floors. I would think that it would be kinda hard now to come up with the exact point of impact.

Do you know someone who worked there? If you know the name of the office, post it here and someone might know (Dervin?).

Dervin said that the second plane hit on the 47th floor of the building he was in, on the 45th floor.

I'm not hearing that the pilot ditched the plane in PA because he knew they were headed for the Sears Tower. Just rumor, though.

I join the rest of you in sadness and horror of what we have seen this morning. We are one nation and I hope the whole world will see this in the days to follow. God did not cause this to happen, but the evilness within the hearts of people. Let's join together to support those suffering and our our national leaders with our prayers and in any other ways that we can.
