Relay November 2009Come run through history and across the water. The 15K and 5K run/walk have excellent venues and terrific organization. And the area's natural beauty--especially those sugar-white beaches--can't be beat. Temperatures are usually ideal for running.

Yes, Saturday, February 6 the place to run is Pensacola, Florida. The annual Double Bridge Run offers three options--the 15K race from Pensacola across Pensacola Bay and Santa Rosa Sound to Pensacola Beach; the 5K run from Gulf Breeze to the beach, or the 5K walk, same course. Nearly half of 9.3 miles will be over water and two thirds of the 5K. And the views are spectacular. Run Double Bridge and get double the enjoyment in this unique race. The post-race party will be at Hemingway's at the gorgeous Portofino Boardwalk at Pensacola Beach very close to the finish line.

There is much to see and do in Pensacola and Pensacola Beach. An ideal winter getaway and great party atmosphere. Millennium Mile

It's all downhill from here! It is quick, and it is fun! The 11th annual Millennium Mile will run on December 27, 2009, in Londonderry, New Hampshire. This one-mile contest is the highlight of the holiday running season for many. It is downhill, lightening fast, and the only such race in New England.

This unique event will speed down Mammoth Road through the heart of the famous apple orchards--hundreds of runners, all ages, will celebrate the beginning of a New Year. It will run at 2:00 p.m. Yankee Timing will use the Chronotrack chip system to provide accurate and immediate results. It is a run for everyone and a fantastic bargain at $10.00 ($15.00 race day, $5.00 for kids 12 and under).

Some of the best runners in the USA have participated in this event. You never know who might show up; one year it was Olympic medalist Deena Kastor. Check the Website for past champions.

All previous races have been won in 4:00 minutes or under for men, and 4:41 or less for women. Last year the winners were Salome Kosgei of Kenya (4:35) and Abiyot Endale of Ethiopia (3:58). Course records: Amy Mortimer, West Roxbury, Massachusetts, 4:20 in 2005; the men's shared by Scott Anderson, Washington, D.C., 3:51 (inaugural, 1999), and Andy Downin (2001).

But most importantly this event is about participation--runners of every age. Kids will run their first race with parents alongside older runners in their 70's and 80's; all getting it done and having fun!
