In its annual State of the Sport Series, Running USA examines how patterns in corporate, consumer and running behavior have changed over the last decade and what to expect for the future of running - both the sport and the industry. Part II looks at the new "core runner" profiles that were based on results of a survey conducted for the first time in 2007 by Running USA with the help of RRCA clubs, race organizers and running specialty stores. IN THE NEWS Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series Announces Newest Location: Seattle
The Competitor Group, organizers of the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon series, has announced that Seattle will be the next home of the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon & 1/2 Marathon. The inaugural race is set to kick off the city's annual Seafair summer celebration, and will travel from Tukwila to Seattle. IN THE NEWS Wave Starts, Mile Splits Added to ING New York City Marathon 2008
In the most significant logistical changes to the race since 2001, the ING New York City Marathon 2008 will feature wave starts and automated recording of all runners' split times for the final 10 miles, it was announced by New York Road Runners president and CEO and race director Mary Wittenberg. The 39th running of the ING New York City Marathon will take place on Sunday, November 2. For more details, read the full press release.

SCIENCE OF SPORT Stanford researchers find that running slows the aging clock
Regular running slows the effects of aging, according to a new study from the Stanford University School of Medicine that has tracked 500 older runners for more than 20 years. The researchers found, among other things, elderly runners are half as likely as aging nonrunners to die early deaths. To find out what else the research revealed, read the full article.

The third annual CHaD Half Marathon & Relay will run in Hanover, New Hampshire and Norwich, Vermont, the upper Connecticut River Valley, on September 6 at 3:45 p.m. The new loop course makes everything center on the Dartmouth Green - starting line, transition areas, finish line, and post race.

NEWSLETTER SPONSOR End of Summer Classic
The End of Summer Classic Road Race, a four miler sponsored by Marathon Sports, will run in Hingham, Massachusetts on Friday evening, September 5 at Bare Cove Park beginning at 6:30 p.m. The park and race are accessible by public transportation--the MBTA Commuter Rail Greenbush Line (West Hingham Station out of South Station in Boston); simply walk across the street from the station and into Bare Cove Park.
As you might expect, given the park, the race runs on a combination of roads and trails. Much of the course is along the shore; this first-time event is a uniquely scenic run. The Ollie Road Race Five Miler will be the USATF-New England Five Mile Championship, and a true community event unique to Boston and captivating to the running community throughout New England and beyond. It will be a championship race with all the amenities--a great time for a good cause.
