Bill’s Pizzeria 5K will be running in lovely Newton Centre on Sunday, October 27, 2013 with a clockwise loop right through the heart of the village with race headquarters at the Mason Rice Elementary School on Pleasant Street. This is just a few blocks off Beacon Street and near Bill’s Pizzeria. You get lots of perks with this one, including a really nice course that skirts the edge of Crystal Lake and crosses Beacon Street twice on a sweet loop that accommodates any pace from elite racers to beginners.

The 5K is at a convenient 9:00 a.m., but before the big one blasts off there will be a quarter mile Spooky Sprint Fun Run, which is the epitome of healthy Halloween fun for kids—many of whom will be in costume—and you talk about a cute, fun atmosphere! And watch for the smiles on those faces when they get their gifts—priceless.

Yes, Fattman Productions has done it again, creating another race in Newton that benefits the community in so many ways; this time with help from sponsoring Bill’s Pizzeria: Bill’s original location (and the scene of the terrific post race party) is at 753 Beacon Street, Newton Centre, Massachusetts 02459. They have another location in Natick, Massachusetts, at 58 East Central Street. Check them out: http://www.billspizzeria.com/index1.jsp

And thanks to Bill’s, Fattman Productions can offer both the free Spooky Sprint as well as a most reasonable registration fee for the 5K. And you get a lot of amenities for that fee: long sleeved technical T-shirts (first 500 to register), the wonderfully supported 5K loop, an amazing atmosphere before, during, and after the race with the Crazy Pizza Party at Bill’s—terrific post race food and refreshments with live music. During the party they will have the fun awards ceremony—using the famous pizza paddle—recognizing the top three overall and top three in each division: 15-and-under, 16-19, and 10-year age groups through 70 plus.

Keep in mind that this is a fundraiser for the Travis Roy Foundation and donations and pledges are most welcome. You can check out the details on this and all other necessary info, such as directions, parking, course map, at the race website: http://www.fattmanproductions.com/corkBills5kinfo.html This event is about fundraising and FUNraising.

The Mason Rice Elementary School is located at 149 Pleasant Street, Newton Center 02459, and race headquarters will be located there with late packet pickup and late registration available in the gym from 7:30 a.m. to 8:45 on race morning.

But don’t wait. Save both money and hassle and do it early on line or download the registration form on the website. Then packet pickup will be conveniently available on Thursday, October 24 at Bill’s Pizzeria from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.; or you can pickup race packet on Saturday the 26th at First Commons Bank, 718 Beacon Street, Newton Centre.

The course is awesome through Newton neighborhoods. It is fun to run in Newton Center with a lot of costumed participants and traffic control—doesn’t happen often. The start will be on Tyler Terrace, just a short distance from Mason Rice Elementary and adjacent to the Newton Center Playground.

After the horn the field will head west on Tyler Terrace to begin the clockwise loop with a left on Pleasant Street, then crossing Beacon Street to Lake Avenue. More than a third of the course is on Lake Avenue, a pretty tour that includes the north edge of Chrystal Lake and a nice flat run, passing one mile just a short distance past the lake. At 1.2 the course turns right or north on Walnut Street for a one-mile sprint north. It crosses Beacon Street again at Four Corners and continues north to the two-mile mark on Walnut just before the right turn on Homer Street as runners home in on the last portion.

Homer Street carries the field to Center Street and a right turn, followed shortly thereafter with another right along the playground back on to Tyler Terrace. The start line marks the three-mile mark with the playful, triumphant sprint to the finish just beyond.

And then…the Crazy Pizza Party and more!

Don’t miss this fun, holiday themed 5K. It is provided by one of the best teams in New England, and it would be difficult to find a more enjoyable way to spend the last Sunday morning in October. We suggest you register now and capture one of those custom T-shirts, which, years from now, will remind you of a fun 5K, a nice run through Newton Centre.
