The National Allstate Life InsuranceSM 13.1 Marathon® Series Heads to Florida– Along the Atlantic, Finishing on the Beach
Fort Lauderdale is the eighth and last destination for this series--the beach, the boutiques and galleries along Las Olas Boulevard in the early miles of this run, and that beautiful sunrise over the Atlantic. This is a fantastic destination and a city with thousands of dedicated runners. The 13.1 Marathon® Series has events in some of America’s greatest cities, and here comes Fort Lauderdale.

The National Allstate Life InsuranceSM Fort Lauderdale 13.1 Marathon® will run in Fort Lauderdale on November 10, 2013 with a start in the Downtown and Las Olas area, a run through the Henry E. Kinney Tunnel (US Route 1), along the numerous canals and Las Olas Boulevard--Fort Lauderdale has been compared with Venice because of the 165 miles of intricate canals--and miles along Fort Lauderdale's famous and beautiful beach, including Atlantic Boulevard; with an exciting finish at South Beach Park on Seabreeze Boulevard, just south of the International Swimming Hall of Fame.

The 13.1 Fort Lauderdale Marathon includes a 5K—as they all do--and a rockin’ post race party with live entertainment. South Florida, “Where the Party Meets the Pavement” and the beach! Let's run the 13.1 Fort Lauderdale Marathon, the final edition of this wonderful series for 2013.

It will be an ideal time to run in Fort Lauderdale with the half marathon starting at 6:35 a.m. And it just so happens that sunrise on November 10 will be at 6:35 a.m.! With the sun rising over the ocean, and the temperature most likely between 65 and 70 degrees during the run, it will be both beautiful and comfortable. It will also be very flat; the largest "hill" is coming out of Kinney Tunnel, which takes iconic Route One under the New River at the One Mile mark.

This race is very significant as the first in another series--the "Run the Seas Florida Storm" Series established by US Road Sports. That series includes the National Allstate Life InsuranceSM 13.1 Marathon® November 10; The Palm Beaches Marathon and Runfest (full and half marathon) December 8, 2013; the ING Miami Marathon (also full and half marathons) on February2, 2014; the National Allstate Life InsuranceSM Miami 13.1 Marathon® on March 2nd; and the First Watch Sarasota Half Marathon and Half Marathon Relay on March 16, 2014. If you want bling this series is for you! Run three of the five and get a great medal; run four of five and get a better medal; run all five and get a ridiculous "Level Five" award. See details on the race website about the individual race as well as the series: http://www.131marathon.com/fortlauderdale/

The event is a must, an ideal fall race, whether you live in the Fort Lauderdale-Miami metro area or want to experience one of the eight iconic cities of the series as a destination. With terrific organization by US Road Sports and Entertainment Group, many amenities, including digital clocks every mile, photos opportunities along the course, live music, great course support along all 13.1 miles, this is a great opportunity to run and experience South Florida as never before.

As with all 13.1 Marathon events there will be an accompanying 5K for those looking for a shorter, still beautiful run. The 5K starts along the beach on Atlantic Boulevard and races south to the same finish at South Beach Park on Seabreeze Boulevard. There is an excellent course map showing the routes for 13.1 and 5K on the website.

Fort Lauderdale is one of the choicest tourist destinations in the world with over 11 million visiting each year. The first two weeks of November, however, is the best time to visit as the larger crowds seem to come later. It is a great time to enjoy all that Fort Lauderdale has to offer, including some 4,000 restaurants and dozens of clubs. It has many unique features too, for example the world's largest movie drive in with 13 screens. It is an energetic and sophisticated city with the beaches as the big draw. But it also has the Museum of Discovery and Science, the Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale, Historical Society, Antique Care Museum, and the Riverwalk Arts and Entertainment District just to name a few.

The 13.1 Marathon Fort Lauderdale is the last of the eight events in the national 13.1 Marathon series. It began in Los Angeles in January, followed by Miami in early March and New York in late March. Then came 13.1 Chicago Marathon in June, followed in September by 13.1 Boston (September 15), Atlanta (October 6) with 13.1 Dallas (October 26) and 13.1 Fort Lauderdale (November 10) to complete the series for the year. These are not HALF of anything; they are eight terrific events that have drawn praise and awe from throughout the running community. Each event includes a 5K in addition to the 13.1 Marathon.

You will love this race, and you may want to do them all in 2014. But for starters don’t miss this exciting gem, an experience you will totally enjoy for the course, the locale, the amenities, and for just plain rockin’ fun! “It is more than a race—it’s a party--a beach party!”

And a very rewarding one, with long sleeve Tech T’s for all 13.1 participants as well as a custom finisher’s medal runners can be proud of. They have age groups awards in five-year increments, starting with 12-14, 15-19, and then five year increments through 75 plus, women and men. That’s 84 awards for the 13.1 Marathon and another 84 for the 5K. There are also cash prizes for elite runners.

"I have never enjoyed a race so much in my life. These folks really have it together--they know what we want."

There will be live musical entertainment along the course and a fantastic finish line festival (they even have an entertainment coordinator). The series is known for their very special post race parties. This is World Class!
