The 17th Running of the Chicago Half Marathon takes place on Sunday, September 8, 2013. It will include the Hyundai Hope on Wheels 5K, a terrific Health and Fitness Expo, and a great post race party—something for all to enjoy. The Chicago Half Marathon & Hyundai Hope on Wheels 5K sells out at 20,000 participants, so do not delay in your registration.

Chicago’s Jackson Park is an ideal setting for a road race, a beautiful 600-acre green space just south of the famous Museum of Science and Industry. The park was originally set aside to host the 1893 World Columbian Exposition, or World’s Fair, and serves as the start and finish area for this great event which will host participants of all paces and abilities.

As anyone who has participated in a US Road Sports event can tell you, such as the Palm Beaches Marathon and Run Fest (12/8/13), the Miami Marathon and Half Marathon (2/2/14), the 8-race Allstate Life Insurance 13.1 Marathon Series, the First Watch Sarasota Half Marathon and Relay (3/16/14), or the Publix Georgia Marathon and Half Marathon (3/23/14); everything is first rate—support on the course, custom commemorative medals, long sleeve technical T-shirts, entertainment during the race and post race, and outstanding post race parties. Registration is open for all these events and more at http://www.usroadsports.com/

Check out the Chicago Half Marathon Page specifically for a wide range of essential information such as registration, travel and accommodations, directions and parking, Health and Fitness Expo and packet pick up, schedule of events, seeding, race day transportation, pace teams, FAQ’s, volunteer opportunities, results and awards, training, race management connections, and more: http://www.chicagohalfmarathon.com/

Here it Comes, the Windy City Challenge
It’s new this year, the Windy City Challenge: Run the Allstate Life Insurance Chicago 13.1 Marathon® on June 8, 2013, and exactly three months later run the 17th annual Chicago Half Marathon, September 8, Chicago’s “Home Town Race”; and receive a third commemorative medal for the 26.2 “Marathon” Windy City Challenge—three custom keepsake medals for two races. Of course, to do them both you must do the first one. Check out the upcoming event at www.131chicago.com. It is approaching fast so don’t be left out of this unique opportunity. And for questions you can e-mail run@131chicago.com.

That’s right, two great races—three months apart—will net you three great medals. They are two of Chicago’s best races, and among the best anywhere. Runners who register for both races will automatically be registered for the Windy City Challenge. And they will receive exclusive benefits: private pick up area at the Chicago Half Marathon and Expo, name listing on a special section of results pages showing combined time, “Marathon Time”, for both races, and of course that most desirable commemorative WCC Medal!

The courses are both USATF-certified, and both have 11 aid stations with nearby porto-johns at each. There will be live musical entertainment along both courses and a fantastic finish line festival, for which US Road Sports and Entertainment Group is well known. This is World Class, and will be a memorable experience for all, whether running one or both—but especially BOTH.

The Chicago Half Marathon Experience
The Chicago Half Marathon is the fifth largest half marathon in the country, and the 20th largest of any type race in the USA. It is a must-do event, an ideal late summer race, and a career experience for all runners. The Chicago Half is among the five largest but also the best half marathons in the U.S. It gives participants the chance to run on Lake Shore Drive! This scenic 13.1-mile course will start and finish in Jackson Park and showcase the south lakefront and the Jackson Park Golf Course. The Lake Shore Drive stretch offers beautiful views of the great Chicago Skyline. http://www.chicagohalfmarathon.com/

Whether you live in the Chicago area or want to experience one of the world’s iconic cities as a destination, this is a great opportunity to run and enjoy Chicago as never before.
It has terrific organization by US Road Sports and Entertainment Group, many amenities, live music, great lakeside views and 13.1 miles, mostly in the beautiful parks along the shore (including Lakeshore Drive).

Chicago is known as the Windy City, of course, but in truth it is rarely windy in early September, and the weather is nearly ideal for racing. Chicago is also known as the “Jewell of the Lakes” and “Gem of the Prairie”. More recently the term “America’s Third Coast” has come into use.

Chicago
Not only is this a great place to race, but you will want to leave time to savor the atmosphere and beauty of this unbelievably dynamic, culturally and artistically rich city. Plan to spend the weekend exploring the amazing gems of Chicago’s heritage: The aforementioned Museum of Culture and Industry, Adler Planetarium, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Field Museum, John G. Shed Aquarium, beautiful and expansive Lincoln Park (great place to run, as are all the lakeshore parks), Millennium and Grant Parks, and the Navy Pier just to name a few.

It is a great running and walking city, whether in “the Loop” or beyond. Shopping and nightlife are top notch as well, with unlimited choices in music and performing arts.

A Must Experience—Let’s Do It
Come and run this race, enjoy the party, and leave with exciting memories. You will be entertained and rewarded. The magnificence of the city and of the region are enduring. The race is well planned and organized by true professionals; it’s really special, innovative, and enjoyable. They are well prepared for you!
