Barcelona 20th May 2008--The Swedish athlete Carolina Kluft, Olympic Champion, World Champion, European Heptathlon champion and point of reference among athletes from her generation, has confirmed her participation in the meeting Ciutat de Barcelona next 19th July. It will be the first time Carolina competes in Barcelona and she has expressed her intention of taking part in one of her first competitions in Triple Jump because this well known Swedish athlete has decided this year to participate in the Olympic Games Beijing in Long jump and Triple Jump.
After having been the absolute winner in the combined event for six consecutive years (unbeaten since her victory In the European Athletics Championship Munich 2002), Kluft has decided to take some new challenges. It was well known by everybody that she is an excellent long jumper with the best record 6,97m outdoor, but her potential in Triple Jump remain unknown (best result: 14,02m)
Carolina was born in Boras on 2nd February 1983; Kluft, the only one athlete in being three times the winner in Heptathlon in the World Athletics Championship, will be one of the top athletes coming to the Meeting Ciutat de Barcelona. She will compete against some internationally well known triple jumpers and of course against Carlota Castrejana, the Spanish champion who this summer reappears after having had some problems which have made her being away from Athletic events during the winter season.
Castrejana is the current Spanish record holder 14,64m. Some trainers such as Yanninck Tregaro (Christian Olsson) predict Kluft could get a record close to 14,50m.
The Meeting Ciutat de Barcelona will be held in the Olympic stadium of Montjuic on 19th July at 7:30 in the afternoon. After having been out for eight years, it comes back to the international calendar thanks to the organisation of the 20th European Athletics Championship in our city.
