Kunkel sets 400m hurdles Canadian record… again

OTTAWA – Adam Kunkel was out breaking records again this past weekend, this time at a meet in Lucerne, Switzerland. Kunkel bettered the pending Canadian record he set in France (48.88 seconds) by winning the B section of the 400m hurdles and registering the fastest overall time crossing the finish line in 48.86 seconds. Kunkel’s next race will be in Chania on July 17th. Kunkel originally broke Mark Jackson’s 14-year old record of 49.18 seconds on June 30th.
Adam Kunkel was not the only Canadian highlight at the Lucerne event. Nicole Forrester finished in 1st place in the women’s high jump with a jump of 1.86 metres. Dana Ellis was 2nd in the pole vault (4.35 metres). Hilary Stellingwerf was 6th while Malindi Elmore was 7th in the 1500m. Anson Henry’s time of 10.37 seconds in the 100m was good for 6th place.
In Paris at the Gaz de France Golden League meet, Tyler Christopher was 3rd in the 400m. At the same event Gary Reed was 6th in the 800m (1:45.19), Kevin Sullivan was 9th in the 1500m (3:33.30), Nate Brennan was 11th in the same race in a time of 3:36.11. Carmen Douma-Hussar was 9th in the women’s 1500m, clocking in at 4:03.82. 100m hurdler Priscilla Lopes finished in 4th place in what was her first international race as a professional clocking in at 12.77 seconds.
