Felicien wins in Boston: New Canadian record set in Montreal

January 29 2007, OTTAWA – The 2007 Indoor season is well-underway with Canadian athletes registering outstanding performances in Canada and on foreign soil. This weekend’s highlights include a win by Perdita Felicien of Pickering, Ont. and a new Canadian record set in Montreal at the McGill Team Challenge.
Boston Indoor Games, January 27
Perdita Felicien won the women’s 60-metre hurdles in a time of 7.97. Fellow Canadian Priscilla Lopes from Whitby, Ont. was 5th in a time of 8.20. Kevin Sullivan from Brantford, Ont. was 2nd in the Men’s Mile Run in a time of 3:57.33. In the women’s 3000m, Canadian champion Malindi Elmore from Calgary was 5th crossing the line in 8:57.59 and Hilary Stellingwerff of Guelph, Ont. finished in 10th place in 9:16.95. In the women’s pole vault Dana Ellis from Kitchener, Ont. finished in 5th place with a clearance of 4.28-metres. Lindsay Carson from Cambridge, Ont. was 4th in the Girls’ Junior Mile in a time of 4:55.0.
McGill Team Challenge, January 26-27
Geneviève Thibault of Val Belair, Que. and Nicolas Macrozonaris from Laval, Que. showed why they are the reigning 100-metre Canadian Champions. Thibault won the women’s 60-metres in a time of 7.54 and Macrozonaris took the men’s-60 metres open in 6.65. Thibault also won the women’s 60-metre hurdles in 8.60. Tyler Christopher from Edmonton, Adam Kunkel from Paisely, Ont., Keston Nelson from Toronto and Neal Hurtubise from Coquitlam, BC teamed-up to set a new Men’s Canadian indoor record of 1:24.85 in the 4X200-metre relay. The record is pending Athletics Canada’s approval.
Other Results
On January 19 at the Texas Tech Invitational, Jared Connaughton from New Haven, PEI won both the men’s 55-metres (6.38) and 200-metres (21.41). On January 12 at the Arkansas Invitational, Connaughton won the men’s 200-metres in a time of 21.21, edging out Richard Adu-Bobie of Ottawa who crossed 2nd in 21.35.
