Oregon CC's Rice named Athlete of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS - Paige Rice of Oregon CC has been named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week after winning the midget girl's title Saturday at the 2007 USATF National Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships, presented by Finish Line, at Rim Rock Farm in Lawrence, Kansas.

The 2006 bantam girls winner, Rice dominated the field in the midget girls 3 km race cruising to victory in 10 minutes 58.57 seconds. Her next closest competitor was runner-up Nicole Mellow (Columbia Track Club) who finished in 11:15.04.

Now in its sixth year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
