Big Sur Marathon Sold Out!

CARMEL, Calif. - (November 21, 2002) - In keeping with a true "PR" (personal record), the Big Sur International Marathon has sold out two months after opening registration for the Marathon and related events in early September. The BSIM is holding Silent Auctions for four of their events. The Marathon will offer 100 bib numbers for a minimum bid of $50 over the entry fee; the Power Walk will have 50 bibs for a minimum bid of $50 over the entry fee; the
10.6-Mile Rocky Point Walk will offer 50 bibs for a minimum bid of $20 and the Relay will have 10 teams openings for a minimum bid of $50 over the entry fee.

Silent auction entry forms can be downloaded from the website at www.bsim.org and mailed to the office by January 31, 2003. The highest bidders in all events will be chosen and the auction proceeds will go to Big Sur and Monterey County charities. Non-winning bids and entries will be returned (with SASE) or shredded.

There are still openings in the News 46 5K presented by Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula. Interested parties can register online or by mail.

"We always are disappointed when we have to turn runners away because of our very strict space limitations on the course," remarked Hugo Ferlito, Chairman of the Board of Directors. "The good side is that we have a way of taking a few extra of these premium spots and having some extra money go to some very good causes and charities."

Entry forms and information can be obtained from the website, www.bsim.org or by calling the office at (831) 625-6226.

The 18th annual presentation of the Big Sur International Marathon is set for Sunday, April 27 at 7:00 am. All proceeds from the event will be distributed to nonprofit organizations throughout Monterey County and Big Sur. Over the past 17 years, more than $1,000,000 has been distributed to local charities. For more information, please visit www.bsim.org. The Big Sur International Marathon, a Running USA Founding Member, is a nonprofit organization whose
mission is to provide a world-class Marathon and make a significant contribution to the health and welfare of the community.
