SAN FRANCISCO - The 4th edition San Francisco Giant Race took place on Sunday, August 4th, 2013 at AT&T Park with nearly 20,000 registered participants. The sold-out event consisted of Half-Marathon, 10K, and 5K races along the scenic San Francisco Bay and each finished on the field of the 2012 World Champion San Francisco Giants. In addition, the event featured the sold-out FedEx Kids Race & Family Relay, with 700 participants running laps around the field.

The 2013 Giant Race benefited long-time charity partner Project Open Hand, a nonprofit organization that provides meals, groceries, and nutritional counseling to individuals living with HIV and AIDS, individuals who are homebound with other critical illnesses, and seniors in San Francisco and Alameda County. The 2013 Giant Race raised over $260,000 for Project Open Hand through runner fundraising and donation efforts.

Each runner received an Official 2013 San Francisco Giant Race technical shirt, a Sergio Romo Runner Bobblehead (exclusive to the 2013 Giant Race), and the 2013 Giant Race Finisher Medal which was a replica of the 2012 World Series ring.

Jake Schmitt, 26, of San Francisco won the half-marathon with a time of 1 hour, 7 minutes, 30 seconds, and Jenna Boren, 36, of San Mateo took home the women’s title with her 1:17:35 finish. The 10K was won by Brian Collett, 28, of Berkeley who finished in 35:18, and Stanford’s Stephanie Pancoast, 25, was the top woman with a time of 36:30. The male and female winners of the 5K were San Francisco’s Andrew Tarcin, 30, who finished in 16:38, and Orinda’s Sarah Boyden who finished in 18:29.

The Giant Race, with races in San Francisco and San Jose, Calif., recently announced the inaugural Scottsdale Giant Race will take place in March 2014, during Spring Training in Scottsdale, Ariz. Visit www.thegiantrace.com for more information.
