SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - (April 21, 2012) - Under clear blue skies and snowcapped Wasatch Mountains close to 7,000 registered runners, bikers, families and friends enjoyed a memorable day at the 9th Salt Lake City Marathon on Saturday morning. Fritz Van De Kamp, 32, Salt Lake City and Devra Vierkant, 35, Sandy, UT won the marathon in 2 hours, 25 minutes, 58 seconds and 2:54:57, respectively.

After the victory, Van De Kamp said, "It was an excellent race in beautiful weather…that was very well organized."

Van De Kamp also enjoyed the course for personal reasons he mentioned to the Salt Lake Tribune, "I got to run right through my neighborhood…I am very familiar with these streets, and the downhill finish was great."

In the half-marathon, Brad Osguthorpe, 28, Heber City, UT and Andrea North, 25, Salt Lake City took the titles, clocking 1:08:37 and 1:18:13, respectively.

Brooke Hathaway of the Huntsman Cancer Foundation exclaimed, "We are so happy that the race took place this year and remained a vehicle through which our Huntsman Hometown Heroes team - 115 strong - could raise more than $50,000 for cancer research."

US Road Sports Managing Partner and Founder Peter Handy added, "We look forward to building on our efforts with the 10th running of the Salt Lake City Marathon, Half Marathon, Bike Tour and 5K on the streets of this great American city in 2013."
