INDIANAPOLIS - Past masters champions and record holders will lead the fields as the top 40 and over athletes in the U.S. converge on Austin, Texas for the USA Masters 10 km Championships, hosted by The Texas Round-Up Festival on Saturday.

Leading entries in the men's 40-44 age group include Sean Wade (Houston, Texas), 2008 USA Masters Cross Country Champion at 8 km and Scott Strand (Birmingham, Ala.), the 2000 USA Men's 10 km champion. Joining Strand and Wade will be Carl Rundell (Birmingham, Mich.), a two-time Olympic Trials Marathon qualifier. 2004 Olympic Trials Marathon champion Colleen De Reuck, along with Jody Hawkins (Frisco, Texas), the 2008 USA Cross Country Champion for 8 km, will lead the women's 40-44 age group.

The men's 45-49 division will once again see defending division champion Dennis Simonaitis (Draper, Utah) face-off with Danny Martinez (Alhambra, Calif.) and Peter Magill (South Pasadena, Calif.), second and third respectively at the 2007 championships. Carmen Ayala-Troncoso (Austin, Texas), the 2005 USA Masters Women's 5 km Champion, leads the women's division for 45-49.

Other notable entries include Kathryn Martin (Northport, N.Y.), USA champion and record holder at multiple masters events and Doug Bell (Greeley, Colo.), who still holds the 45-49 American Record for 5 km, in the 55-59 division.

The Texas Round-up is a statewide fitness initiative that encourages all Texans to adopt and maintain healthy lifestyles through regular exercise and general physical fitness and was created by Texas Governor, Rick Perry in 2004.

The event will be held just off the steps of the State Capitol in Austin and draws thousands of people from around the state to celebrate fitness. The championships will feature a record $34,000 in prize money for U.S. Masters athletes including top-ten age-graded awards.
