FORT WORTH, Texas - The Cowtown Marathon celebrated 35 years of running with record breaking attendance at its race weekend Feb. 23-24. The Cowtown’s registration was larger than ever, with just under 27,000 runners registered. Registration records were set in the ultra marathon, marathon, half-marathon and the Cook Children’s 5K races.

Records were broken not only in overall attendance but in finishing times for five races. Logan Sherman took the title as the fastest male in the ultra marathon in 3:10:40, shaving off over seven minutes from the old record.

Elizabeth Eder, a Fort Worth native, smashed the record in the women’s full marathon by 20 minutes with a time of 2:46:09. Eder was also the winner at the San Antonio Rock n Roll Marathon in November, 2012.

New records in the half-marathon were set on Sunday for both the male and female runners. Monika Korra finished with a time of 1:21:25 and Jerrod McNeil in 1:09:49

A new record was set in the men's 10K by Antti-Pekka Niinisto with a time of 31:16. Rewriting the 5K records, Jessica Smith finished in 18:21 and Dereje Hailegiorgis finished in 15 minutes flat.

The Cowtown’s mission is to promote health & wellness in the community. The C.A.L.F. Program (Children’s Activities for Life & Fitness) assists over 2,100 North Texas school children by providing, training tools, monetary assistance with entry into the race and New Balance Running shoes. The number of awards has increased by 700 from last year when The Cowtown distributed funds and shoes to just over 1,400 children. Every runner’s participation in The Cowtown helps support The Cowtown C.A.L.F. Program.
