Chicago, Ill - March 11, 2009 - The first running of the Rock 'n' Roll Chicago is set for Sunday, August 2, 2009. Formerly known as the Chicago Distance Classic, the 13.1-mile race course will include live bands along the route, in its first iteration as a Rock 'n' Roll event.

"The flat course and timing of the event will be ideal for runners planning to compete in the Chicago Marathon," said Elizabeth O'Brien, the event's General Manager. "The local community has always welcomed the half-marathon with open arms and we are excited to become a part of the tradition of the distance classic and show the Chicago community how fun a Rock 'n' Roll event can be."

Race weekend kicks off Friday, July 31 with a free two-day Health & Fitness Expo at McCormick Place, which is open to the public. The Expo, where all participants must pick up their bib number and race packet, will feature over 100 exhibitors with samples, the latest in running gear and sports apparel, as well as full series of interactive clinics.

The race's tentative course is slated to begin on Columbus, south of Congress at 6:30 am. The finish line will also be located on Columbus between Roosevelt and Balbo. The event concludes with a post race party and concert, which will take place on an outdoor stage inside Grant Park at Lower Hutchinson field.

In addition to live bands rockin' along the course, participants will receive blue Sugoi technical t-shirts when they pick up their race packets. The race is also pleased to announce the Chicago Hilton as the event's official headquarter hotel, a convenient option for runners with the hotel just steps from both the start and finish line.

The Rock 'n' Roll Chicago is now part of a national series of nine musically themed marathons and half marathons. The series, which originated in San Diego, now includes events in Seattle, San Antonio, Phoenix, Virginia Beach, Las Vegas, San Jose and Nashville. The phenomenal number of participants and musical influence combine to make each Rock 'n' Roll event a one-of-a-kind experience for the whole family.
