Reynolds sets record, four athletes claim third gold on final day of USA Youth Outdoor Champs

LISLE, Ill. - Robin Reynolds blazed to a new national record in the youth girls' 400 meter dash on Sunday at the 2007 USA Youth Outdoor Track & Field Championships held at Benedictine University.

Reynolds (Miami, Fla.) ran 53.10 seconds to claim her second title. Her time bettered the previous record of 53.40 set by Brandi Cross in 2002. On Saturday, Reynolds won the championship in the 200m.

Akawkaw Ndipagbor (Corona, Calif.), who edged out Reynolds by .01 for the 100m title in a time of 11.98, ran 53.92 to finish as the runner-up in the 400m. Ndipagbor then anchored TOGETHER Youth Elite Track & Field to the 4x400m title in a time of 3:48.89.

Elias Gedyon (Los Angeles, Calif.), who set a record in the youth boys' 800m Saturday, added titles in the 400m and 1,500m on Sunday. Gedyon won the 400m with a time of 50.39, then pulled away to win the 1,500m in 4 minutes 14.23 seconds..

Brittny Ellis (Waukegan, Ill.) and Aaliyah Brown (Matteson, Ill.) swept the sprints in their respective age divisions. Ellis won titles in the bantam girls' 100m in a time of 13.33 and the 400m in 1:00.56. Brown won the midget girls' 100m in 12.21 and the 400m in 56.47. Both girls won the 200m titles on Saturday.

In the field events, Brittany Borman (DeSoto, Mo.) earned her third championship with a throw of 41.57 meters/136 feet 5 inches in the young women's javelin. Borman had already won the shot put and discus.

In the midget boys' 100m, Thomas Jones (Burlington, N.C.) and Theo Teah (Riverdale, Ga.) finished first and second. Jones ran 12.21 for the win, while Teah finished in 12.44. They finished in the same order Saturday in the 200m.

Joseph Wesley (Marine City, Mich.) won the young men's pole vault with a clearance of 4.80m/15-9, while Mitchell Erickson (Steger, Ill.) cleared 4.65m/15-3 to take second.

Intermediate girls' 2,000m steeplechase champion McKinzie Schulz (Naperville, Ill.) out-kicked Elizabeth Briasco (Forest Hills, N.Y.) to win the 1,500m in a time of 4:44.98. Briasco finished in 4:47.50.

In the final event of the meet, Mt. Airy Track Club won the young men's 4x400m in 3:09.35. Flight Track Club was the runner-up with a time of 3:14.15.

Antron Jackson (Miami, Fla.) was the champion and Derrick Spight (Indianapolis, Ind.) finished as the runner-up in the intermediate boys' high jump. Both cleared a height of 2.00m/6-6.75.

Marcus Krah (Durham, N.C.) won two individual championships Sunday in the bantam boys' division. He won the 100m in 13.13, then claimed the long jump title in 4.49m/14-8.75. Karl Tatum (Milwaukee, Wis.), who won the 200m, was second in the 100m with a time of 13.32. Jordan Reid (Chicago, Ill.) was second in the long jump with a leap of 14.38m/14-4.5.

CA Rising Stars Track Club (Rialto, Calif.) won three of the team championships, taking titles in the bantam girls', midget girls' and midget boys' divisions. TOGETHER Youth Elite Track & Field (Lakewood, Calif.) won the youth and intermediate girls' team titles. The Los Angeles Jets (Los Angeles, Calif.) took titles in the bantam and intermediate boys' divisions. The Metro-Dade Track Club (Miami, Fla.) won the youth boys' title, while the Cornhusker Flyers (Omaha, Neb.) won the young women and the Mt. Airy Track Club (Philadelphia, Pa.) won the young men's championship.
