Posted Thursday, 17 January, 2008
(Duluth, Minn.) Registration for the 32nd running of Grandma's Marathon is officially open.
The 26.2-mile race, which has reached its field capacity for 13 consecutive years, is limited to the first 9,500 participants. The 2008 registration process has been converted to an online format so runners looking to register need to do so by visiting www.GrandmasMarathon.com. Online registration opened today at 12:01 a.m. (CST). In the first 30 minutes, 500 people had already signed up for the June 21 race. By 8:30 a.m. the total had grown to 2,600.
“Given that this is our initial year utilizing online registration, it is going to be more difficult than ever to predict how quickly this race will reach its capacity. The best advice we can give to anyone interested in running Grandma’s Marathon is to register as soon as they can,” says Scott Keenan, executive director of the event.
Grandma's Marathon weekend also features the 18th annual Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon and the 15th annual William A. Irvin 5K. Registration for those two events will begin in February and March, respectively. The Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon is Saturday, June 21 at 6:30 a.m. and the William A. Irvin 5K is Friday, June 20 at 6 p.m.
In all, more than 17,000 runners and 50,000 race fans from around the world will participate in the 32nd annual Grandma's Marathon weekend, which is presented by Target, Toyota and Wells Fargo Bank Duluth.
