July 12, 2012 (Dallas, TX) – The SMU Cox Corporate Relay Challenge, presented by Behringer Harvard, and the MetroPCS Dallas Marathon relay training program – 5 Months to 5 Miles – compose an excellent starter routine for relay runners preparing to enter the December 9, 2012, race.

“We are always thrilled to encourage greater participation from the business community in our race and in marathon training in general,” said Kevin Snyder, chairman of the Dallas Marathon board of trustees. “The 5 Months to 5 Miles program is an easy-to-implement regimen for beginning runners and just one example of how our organization is committed to improving the health and fitness of the local community.”

Developed by the Cooper Fitness Center, the program is divided into basic, intermediate and advanced levels. Each level consists of a 20-week program that helps trainees build endurance gradually by walking, running, strength and cross-training and flexibility exercises. The programkicks off Monday, July 23, and detailed training schedules are available at www.dallasmarathon.com.

The SMU Cox Corporate Relay Challenge, presented byBehringer Harvard, consists of five-person relay teams. Each member participates in one five-to-six-mile leg of the full marathon (26.2 miles total). Each member must be an employee of the same company.

Winning teams share a purse of more than $30,000 inprize money, which is given to Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in the names of the respective corporations. Categories include fastest finishing time, oldest average team age, youngest average team age and most teams from one corporation.

Last year, BNSF Velocity captured the prize for Fastest Corporate Team, their fourth win since the race’s inception. Sewell won the Most Corporate Teams, with 19 finishing teams.

Corporate fitness programs provide excellent networking opportunities, and studies have shown increased work productivity from those participating in regular exercise.

Relay participation in the Dallas Marathon is capped at 6,000 participants (1,200 teams) for 2012. To register for the SMU Cox Corporate Relay Challenge, presented by Behringer Harvard, or for more information, please visit www.dallasmarathon.com.
