Lagat, Vickers Run to Victory, Set Course Records at Grandma’s Minnesota Mile Duluth

(Duluth, Minn.) Kenya’s Haron Lagat won today’s 3rd annual Grandma’s Minnesota Mile Duluth. Lagat, 26, broke the four-minute mark – finishing in a course record 3:59.69. Lagat, who resides in Sante Fe, N.M., claimed the first place prize of $2,000. Kenyan Moses Waweru (4:01) and Kyle Perry of Provo, Utah (4:06) placed second and third in the men’s elite field. Duluthian Jeremy Polson placed sixth in 4:07.

Carrie Vickers, 32, of Carbondale, Colo., earned her second straight women’s division title, finishing in a new course record 4:41 — seven seconds faster than Kenya’s Caroline Rotich. Duluth’s Jen Houck placed fifth in 5:01.

A total of 529 people registered for the Grandma’s Minnesota Mile Duluth event which featured four separate divisions ― Minnesota Mile (Elite), Duluth Mile (Semi-Elite), All City Mile (Recreational) and the Verizon Wireless Kids Mile (see top finishers below).
