October 2, 2008, AUSTIN, TX. ZOOMA Women’s Race Series has opened registration for the inaugural ZOOMA Austin Half Marathon & 5K, presented by New Balance. ZOOMA Austin will run from the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort and Spa in Bastrop/Austin on April 4, 2009 and will include a half-marathon, 5K, and kid’s fun run. LifeWorks, an Austin-based social services non-profit organization, is the official charity partner of ZOOMA Austin.

“We are very excited to bring this unique and exciting women’s fitness event to the Austin community” said Brae Blackley, Executive Director for ZOOMA Women’s Race Series. “ZOOMA Austin runners will love the beautiful rural course and fantastic post-race celebration on the Colorado River.”

Designed to inspire women to lead healthy lives with more perks and bigger parties, ZOOMA Austin invites women to indulge in a healthy and energizing weekend. The race will be held on April 4, 2009 at the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort and Spa in Bastrop/Austin, where special room rates for participants will be available on a first-come first-serve basis. Participants will run a scenic course and finish at the Hyatt Lost Pines to celebrate at a post-race party on the Colorado River including live music, shopping, catered brunch, and spa treatments. ZOOMA will encourage runners to form special LifeWorks fundraising teams as part of their participation in the event and will donate at least $3 of every entry fee to LifeWorks.

LifeWorks is dedicated to providing critical services to youth and families to achieve long-lasting, positive change. The Austin-based non-profit provides education, housing and counseling services to over 10,000 youth and families annually. The ZOOMA race will benefit LifeWorks’ newly created Young Moms & Babies Shelter Program, providing a safe environment, food, baby supplies, parenting and life-skills classes to help ensure future success for young women beginning their journey as parents.

“We are thrilled to partner with ZOOMA in an event that promotes the well-being of women and families,” says Susan McDowell, president of LifeWorks. “By partnering with ZOOMA, we have the opportunity to raise awareness of the needs of youth and families in Austin and to raise funds to support LifeWorks’ critical mission of transitioning youth and families from crisis to safety and success.”

ZOOMA Austin participants will enjoy much more than a run. The day before the race, runners will collect race day packets at the ZOOMA Marketplace presented by splits:59, where participants can also browse cutting-edge gear and apparel designed especially for women. After the race, the ZOOMA After-Party Expo is a combination of post-race celebration and “girls’ weekend” party. Food, wine tastings, mini spa treatments, demos and shopping pamper runners after the race, and live music, lunch and more extend the post-race celebration beyond the finish line.

The ZOOMA Half Marathon and 5K courses will start and finish at the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort and Spa, which is also the Official Hotel and Race Headquarters of ZOOMA Austin. ZOOMA Austin will be managed and produced in partnership with Conley Sports, the producers of the Austin Marathon. More information about the race route will be announced soon.
