Four-time NCAA champion in 2006, Xavier Carter has signed on to race at the Tyson Invitational next Friday night, February 9, at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark.
Carter, one of Team USA's rising stars, posted the second fastest 200-meter time in the history of the event last spring at the Super Grand Prix meet in Lausanne, Switzerland in the mind-blowing time of 19.63 seconds and chose to begin the quest for his first world record at the Tyson Invitational in the 4x400-meter relay.
Other members of the Team USA relay squad could include 2004 Olympic 4x400m gold medalist and 2005 World Outdoor 400m silver medalist Andrew Rock as well as Fayetteville native and 2005 World Outdoor 200m silver medalist Wallace Spearmon, Jr. Also planning to participate in the event is 2005 World Outdoor 4x400m gold medalist LaShawn Merritt, who is expected to run in the open 400 meters, but could also play a major part in any relay records.
In other Tyson Invitational news, the event schedule for Friday night has been finalized. The meet will begin at 8:00 p.m. with the men's collegiate 5,000-meter run. The 4x400-meter relay ends the night with a 9:55 p.m. start.
