LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla.— (Oct 27, 2007) – With Halloween approaching, more than 4,000 runners participated in the inaugural Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 13K at Walt Disney World Resort. Christopher Calkins, 26, crossed the line in second with a time of 46:20. The inaugural race took place to commemorate the 13th anniversary of the famously terrifying Twilight Zone Tower of Terror attraction. The race started at Disney-MGM Studios Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, then winds past other thrilling landmarks such as Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show, New York Street and Mickey’s Sorcerer’s Hat, before heading through Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex and then back to Disney-MGM Studios for an eerily exciting finish at the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror.
At the finish, each participant received a commemorative medal shaped like the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror ride and included a retractable elevator. The athletes were also able to enjoy an exclusive post-race party at the Disney-MGM Studios that featured live music from the Leonard Brothers Band and five deejays spread throughout the park. The runners attending the party, along with their family and friends, also had the opportunity to take exclusive rides aboard Twilight zone Tower of Terror, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster starring Aerosmith, The Great Movie Ride, and the Star Tours – the ultimate Star Wars thrill ride.
