INDIANAPOLIS - More than 2,000 of the top youth track and field athletes in the nation will be on hand at the 2008 USA Youth Outdoor Track & Field Championships, June 24-29, at the University of North Carolina - Charlotte in Charlotte, N.C.

The Championships are a national competition with entry based upon qualifying standards for each event and has the same age divisions as the USATF Junior Olympic Program: Bantam (10 and under), Midget (11-12), Youth (13-14), Intermediate (15-16) and Young Women/Men (17-18). The USA Youth Outdoor Track & Field Championships are also scored for team championships in all age divisions and is a popular competition for clubs around the country.

Returning athletes with age division records set in 2007 include:

Lauren Chambers (Throw 1 Deep), the Intermediate Girls' hammer throw record holder (46.84 meters/153 feet 8 inches), moves up to the Young Women's division, competing in the hammer throw and the shot put.

Intermediate Boys' hammer throw record holder (72.53m/237-11), Connor McCullough, looks to continue his success in the hammer throw and capture a first place finish in the Young Men's division.

Wayne Davis (Track Eastern Carolina), Intermediate Boys' 110mH record holder (13.74 seconds), moves up to the Young Men's division running the 110mH.

Intermediate boys' 1500m record holder (3:54.02), Nathan Mathabane (Oregon XC), returns in the Young Men's division, racing the 800m and 1500m.

Robin Reynolds (Miami Northwest Express TC), the youth girls' 400m record holder (53.10), attempts to defend her age division record in the 400m, while also running in the 100m, 200m, and 800m.

Midget boys 200m and 400m record holder (23.74 and 52.90), Xavier Jones (Greensboro Champion), returns in the Youth Boys' division, competing in the 100m, 200m, and 400m.
