Relays and multi-events close out second day of USA Youth Champs

CHARLOTTE - The 2008 USA Youth Track & Field Championships wrapped up the second day of competition at the Irwin Belk Track and Field Center on the campus of University of North Carolina - Charlotte, events highlighting the day included the 4x800 meter relay and multi-events.

The 4x800 meter relay team of Sarena Shuman, Tatyana Harris, Alexis Peartree, and Charmaine Moore (UAGTCA) seized the title in the youth girls' division, running to the finish in 9 minutes 31.95 seconds.

In the youth boys' division, the squad of Nicholas Hooper, Xavier Moss, Jeffrey Perkins, and Richard Maggi (Track Houston Youth TC) ran the 4x800m relay in 8:53.75, quick enough to capture first place.

Frederick Hamilton, Keith Evans, Jerry Bynum, and Jaymil Johnson (Track Houston Youth Track Club) combined their efforts to finish the intermediate boys' 4x800m relay in 8:35.96 taking first place.

Akira McSwain (Continental) captured the young women's title in the heptathlon, collecting 4,553 points, improving upon her 4th place finish in 2007. Kenneth Rowland (Jacksonville Express TC) won the young men's decathlon, claiming the title with 6,103 points.

Alyssa Monteverde (Sierra Challenge Express) secured the individual title in the intermediate girls' heptathlon, collecting 4,506 points.

Jasmyne Graham (California Rising Stars TC) captured the individual title in the midget girls' pentathlon accruing 2,633 points, while Stanley Davis (Norfolk Real Deal) took the midget boys' division title, with 2,303 points.

In the triathlon, Victoria Powell (Jaguar TC) captured the bantam girls' title collecting 1,359 points, while Kellon Taylor (Track Express TC) claimed the bantam boys' title with 869 total points.
