CHARLOTTE, N.C. - All-time Masters greats Bill Collins and Kathryn Martin dominated the competition in their winning events Saturday at the 2006 USA Masters Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte.

The 2006 USA Masters Championships, featuring athletes ranging in age from 30 to 95+, will conclude on Sunday.

One of the most accomplished athletes in Masters track and field history, Kathryn Martin won the W50 10,000 meters Saturday morning in 39 minutes, 32.58 seconds and later in the afternoon she won the 800 meters in that age-group in 2 minutes 38.42 seconds.

Martin, who won the 5,000 meters on Friday, has never lost to anyone in her age group in masters indoor or outdoor track, road or cross country races, is a dual citizen of Canada and the U.S. Martin owns national age-group indoor and outdoor records in both countries in the 800m, 1,500m and 3,000 meters. She also owns the records for both nations in the 10,000m, 20,000m and 50,000 meters. A former nurse, who now owns her own real estate business, Martin runs 40-45 miles a week in training. The USA Masters Athlete of the Year in 2004, Martin will compete Sunday in the 1,500 meters, 3,200m relay and 1,600m relay.

The world record holder in the men's 55-59 division in the 100m (11.41 seconds) and 200m (23.36), Bill Collins of Houston, Texas, handily won the 400 meters Saturday in 53.05 seconds, and the 100 meters in 11.64.

Collins, who now owns 83 masters national titles, 17 world masters crowns and has set nearly 20 world records during his masters career, patiently endured a series of false starts prior to winning the 100 meters on Saturday. "It was worth the wait," said Collins. "I tried to conserve energy in this race and just take it easy because I have to run a 200 prelim later today. I want to continue doing this until I'm 60. I've been doing this a long time and I'll see about it when I get to 60 years."

An All-American track star as a collegian at Texas Christian University, Collins was a member of a U.S. quartet that set the world 4x100m relay record of 38.03 seconds in 1977. Collins will attempt to win another national crown in the 200 meters on Sunday.
