Springdale, AR (January 29, 2007) - Last season it was the men who went after the world record in the 300-meter dash, and in 2007 it's the women's turn at the Tyson Invitational as world outdoor 200-meter champion Allyson Felix has signed on to headline what should be a star-studded field. The Tyson Invitational is scheduled for Friday, February 9, at the Randal Tyson Track Center beginning at 8:00 p.m.

"Last year we put together a tremendous 300-meter race for the men," Tyson Invitational meet director Art Huff said. "This time it's the women's turn to go after the world record. Tyson Foods has been more than generous with their offer of a $50,000 pool to anyone who breaks a world record and this could be the event in which we see a record broken."

The record that Felix and the rest of the field will be gunning for is the 14-year old mark of Russian Irina Privalova who ran 35.45 in Moscow back on January 17, 1993. Felix enters the race with career bests of 22.11 in the 200 and 51.12 for 400 meters. At the 2006 Tyson Invitational, three runners exceeded the men's 300-meter time of Robson da Silva with former Razorback Wallace Spearmon collecting the prize money with his time of 31.88.

In conjunction with the Tyson Invitational, USA Track & Field will also be hosting a "Be A Champion" program at Hellstern Middle School on February 8, at 2:00 p.m. The "Be A Champion" initiative set forth by USA Track and Field and the American College of Sports Medicine was designed to educate young people about fitness and physical activity as well as warn them about the dangers of drug use. USA Track and Field superstar Jon Drummond will be the moderator of the event with former Razorbacks April Steiner and Spearmon along with Joanna Hayes assisting.

The Tyson Invitational is scheduled to be televised on ESPN2 on Sunday, February 11 at 11:00 a.m. CST. For more information regarding the Tyson Invitational and Tyson Foods please visit www.tysoninvitational.org or www.tyson.com.
