Disney’s Inaugural Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 13K Offers Unique Post-Race Festivities

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla.— (Oct 18, 2007) - With Halloween approaching, more than 4,000 runners are set to have a scary good nighttime run around some of Disney’s most entertaining and terrifying attractions as part of the inaugural Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 13K at Walt Disney World Resort on Oct. 27.
The first-ever event, which commemorates the 13th anniversary of famously terrifying Twilight Zone Tower of Terror attraction, involves a 8.1-mile road race, starting at 9 p.m. at Disney-MGM Studios Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, that winds past other thrilling landmarks such as Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show, New York Street and Mickey’s Sorcerer’s Hat, before heading through Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex and then back to Disney-MGM Studios for an eerily exciting finish at the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror.
Runners, who will also have the option of a 6.5K that starts at 9 p.m., will be invited to partake in an exclusive post-race party at the Disney-MGM Studios, from 9 p.m.-1 a.m. that features a live band. Athletes attending the party also have the opportunity to take exclusive rides aboard Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, Rock 'n' Roller Coaster starring Aerosmith, The Great Movie Ride, and Star Tours - the ultimate Star Wars thrill ride.
Registration for the inaugural Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 13K and 6.5K is closed. In addition to admission to the exclusive race party, runners receive a glow-in-the-dark Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 13K T-shirt and a commemorative medal shaped in the image of the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at the finish. Additional race party tickets can be purchased for friends and family for $25 before the start of the race and are available online at www.disneysports.com or at the package pickup area the day of the race.
The world’s premier sports destination for amateur sports, Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex hosts more than 180 events each year, including Major League Baseball’s Atlanta Braves spring training and a Tampa Bay Rays regular-season series, the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers training camp, the NBA’s Pre-Draft Camp, the NCAA Men’s Basketball Old Spice Classic, the Pop Warner Super Bowl and various Amateur Athletic Union National Championship events.
Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex’s signature facilities include The Ballpark, a two-tiered 7,500-seat retro baseball ballpark; The Milk House, a 5,500-seat old-style indoor field house; and coming in summer 2008, the Jostens Center, a multi-sport indoor field house spanning more than 75,000 square feet.
