ATLANTA – A field of more than 16,000 registered participants hit the streets of Atlanta for the Publix Georgia Marathon & Half Marathon on Sunday, March 17.

Malcolm Campbell, of Marietta, Ga., won first place in the marathon with a time of 2 hours, 26 minutes, 11 seconds. James Maunga, of Marietta, Ga., took second place in 2:30:32, while Mitch Vanbruggen from Durham, N.C., earned third place with a time of 2:31:54.

Jill Horst, of Rome, Ga., claimed her second consecutive crown in the female division, finishing in 2:58:24.

“It was a tremendously challenging course,” Campbell said about his first place finish. “The weather was a huge help for the runners today.”

Claiming the half-marathon title was Andrew Heath, of Atlanta, Ga., with a time of 1:09:55. Placing second was Nathaniel Haskins from Atlanta, Ga., with a time of 1:11:11, and John Minen of Atlanta, Ga., took third in 1:11:56. The top female finisher was Justyna Mudy of Rome, Ga., in 1:18:50.

The race course traveled through metro Atlanta’s most interesting and historic areas including the Sweet Auburn District, Inman Park, Decatur, Druid Hills, Virginia-Highland and Midtown. Along the way, runners will pass landmarks including the King Historic Site, Carter Center, four college campuses (Georgia State, Agnes Scott, Emory and Georgia Tech) and Piedmont Park.

In addition to the Publix Georgia Marathon, US Road Sports & Entertainment (USRS) also produces the Allstate Life Insurance? 13.1 Marathon® Series; ING Miami Marathon, Salt Lake City Marathon and Half Marathon, Chicago Half Marathon, and New Jersey Marathon.

Remaining 2013 Allstate Life Insurance? 13.1 Marathon® Series stops include – New York (March 23), Chicago (June 8), Boston (Sept. 15), Atlanta (Oct. 6), Dallas (Oct. 26), and Ft. Lauderdale (Nov. 10).
