WASHINGTON, DC - (June 28, 2007) - The Greater Washington Sports Alliance has announced that online registration for the 2008 Wirefly National Marathon and Half Marathon will begin at 12:01am (EST), July 4th, 2007 and the sale ends at 11:59pm (EST) on July 7th. Dubbed "Celebrate Freedom," the early bird registration sale includes registration rates of $60 for the marathon and $50 for the half-marathon. Runners can register at: NationalMarathon.com

"Running through the streets of Washington, DC is nothing short of running through history," said Keith Dowling, director of the Wirefly National Marathon. "We are very excited to give runners an opportunity to register early for our event. I believe the discount rate will help motivate runners to commit early and enable them to train with a singular focus for our event."

Washington DC's newest marathon and half-marathon continue to build momentum from a year that included a title sponsorship agreement with District of Columbia-based Wirefly, the number one online retailer of cell phones and wireless plans. With support from Wirefly and ongoing support from sponsors such as NBC 4, twice the amount of registrants entered the second installment of the race than in 2006. Testimonials ranging from the July 2007 issue of Runner's World to a five star rating on Marathon Guide.com have anticipation running high for the marathon's third installment.

"The Greater Washington Sports Alliance is proud to bring participants into the heart of DC," said Sports Alliance President Bob Sweeney. "This race is special in that you are exposed not only to the tradition and history that is unique to this city, but you also get to experience the communities that truly form the soul of the District."
